GIZBOT – Sep 9 – It is not a secret that Facebook has copied many features from Snapchat. Now, apparently, the social network is planning to add Tinder-like features to its Messenger app. Facebook is reportedly asking people if they would like to meet up with a particular person. Users are then shown two options; "No Thanks" and "Yes". If both users tap on "Yes", Facebook will let them know that both of them have shown interest in meeting each other. Facebook has even confirmed that they are testing this feature, but only with select users.

The feature appears in the navigation section where events and groups are found, and is already available on some iOS and Android devices following a trial in Australia and New Zealand.

The app then intelligently recommends the most compatible group chats categorized by interest, event, place or, what's trending. In the group chat room, users join the conversation, check out other members, and even create subgroups to chat about more specific topics. Studies indicate that 64% of singles prefer having common interests as the most important factor in online dating.
New Irish Dating App Whatlfl Is Like Happn
IRISHMIRROR.IE – Mar 17 – WhatIfI describes itself as an "event and location-based social reconnection app". The app helps people reconnect with folks they may have missed out on meeting the night before. It first launched in December in Dublin.
Tagged Founder Greg Tseng Tags Out After 11 Years As CEO
TECH CRUNCH – Dec 2 – Greg Tseng is stepping down from the CEO role after 11 years running its dating social network Tagged and game studio hi5. He'll remain a board member. The company's new CEO will be its COO Dash Gopinath, who was formerly the Chief Product Officer of Tagged competitor Badoo. Tagged still have a team of ~100 people and 2015 will be its 8th consecutive profitable year. The company raised $12M.

Who’s That: New Group Social/Dating App
BOSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL – Aug 7 – Who's That, a mobile dating app that launched four months ago, has garnered ~4,700 users to date. It was first released to students at nine colleges around Boston. Who's That is billed as a social app that matches one group of three friends with another group of three friends with the goal of having them meet up at a local bar. The app makes money by partnering with bars around the city and splitting profits from the drinks the six-person party orders, though the company is still fine-tuning its revenue model.

Social App Monetization Kicks In
THE NEXT WEB – Mar 8 – Monthly revenues for the social networking category on the App Store jumped 87% YOY in January, according to a new study from App Annie. The social networking apps category is now the third highest in terms of monthly revenue, behind games and productivity. In terms of downloads, social networking was sixth overall among categories on the App Store in January. According to App Annie, monthly downloads were up 30% YOY and now account for 5% of total downloads. Globally, the list of top social networking apps with respect to downloads was predictably dominated by Facebook, Apple’s Find My Friends, Twitter and Skype. Dating apps like Zoosk, Badoo, Grindr Xtra and eHarmony also proved capable at monetization.
