Tinder and Zoom Offer ‘Proof of Humanity’ Eye-scans to Combat AI

Tinder and Zoom Offer 'Proof of Humanity' Eye-scans to Combat AI

BBC – Tinder will let users prove they are human and not robots using advanced eye-scanning technology amid rising fears over AI. Users of Tinder, as well as platforms like Zoom, can scan their eyes to earn a “proof of humanity” badge. The scan can be done through an app or an orb-shaped device run by the World network. It scans the iris to confirm a person is human. World, formerly known as Worldcoin, is part of Tools for Humanity, co-founded and chaired by Sam Altman, who also leads ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. Once verified, users receive a unique ID stored on their smartphone, known as their World ID.

Tinder’s Turnaround Plan Centers on Winning Back Women

Posted on April 20, 2026
Tinder focuses on attracting women

FINANCIAL TIMES –  Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff says attracting female users is a “priority focus” in the push to turn around Tinder. Tinder has fallen from a peak of 65.4M monthly active users in 2021 to 50.5M last year, according to Sensor Tower. Match Group does not publish a gender breakdown of users on its apps, but Sensor Tower estimates around 75% of Tinder’s users are men. Since taking over, Rascoff has introduced a series of new features, including double dates, video calls, and shared-interest matching (such as music taste), aimed at attracting younger Gen Z users and women. He said the decline has improved from -11% annually to -8.5%, with a goal of stabilizing growth by the end of next year.

AI Ranks Tinder Photos by Comparing Them and Learning From User Engagement

AI Ranks Tinder Photos by Comparing Them and Learning From User Engagement

LIFE AT TINDER – Tinder uses AI to rank profile photos so the ones most likely to perform well are shown first. The system compares photos against each other and learns from real user interactions, such as which images get more likes. Earlier models focused mainly on visual quality. The newer approach uses Vision-Language Models, which also interpret context – things like social cues, setting, and overall impression. This results in more accurate rankings and better outcomes, such as higher engagement and more matches.

Tinder Introduces Mandatory Video Verification in Singapore to Combat Scams

Posted on April 9, 2026
Tinder Face Check

STRAITS TIMES – Tinder now requires new users in Singapore to complete a video selfie verification (“Face Check”) to confirm identity and reduce bots, fake profiles, and scams. Existing users are only asked to verify if flagged for suspicious activity. The feature checks that profile photos match the user, detects duplicate or banned accounts, and blocks AI-generated content. In markets where it is live, exposure to bad actors has dropped by 60%, and 80% of banned users in the US are now caught within a day.

I AM EXPAT – Starting in April 2026, Tinder users in the Netherlands will be required to submit a face scan to use the dating app. The scan will be used to prevent catfishing, but there are concerns about privacy risks. The new privacy policy states that these AI face scans will be stored on US servers for as long as an account exists on the app and can be shared with third parties “when necessary to resolve issues or ensure that the service continues to function properly”.

Match Group Sues Marsh Over Missed Insurance Deadline in Tinder “Super Like” Dispute

Posted on April 2, 2026

INSURANCE BUSINESS MAG – Match Group has sued insurance broker Marsh USA, alleging it failed to notify insurer Beazley of a claim before a policy expired in 2016, resulting in a denial of coverage. The dispute stems from a lawsuit over Tinder’s “Super Like” feature. Tinder’s broker submitted notice after the policy expired, and courts later ruled the claim should have been reported earlier. After losing its case against Beazley, Match Group is now seeking ~$4M in damages and legal fees from Marsh.

France Signs Charter With Dating Apps to Fight Homophobic Ambushes

France signs charter with dating apps to fight homophobic ambushes

RFI – France has signed a charter with major dating apps, including Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, and Happn, to combat rising homophobic ambushes, where victims are lured by fake profiles and attacked. The agreement focuses on three pillars: prevent, report, and protect. Platforms will improve reporting tools, retain and share data with law enforcement (even after account deletion), promote verified profiles, and strengthen bans. France positions this as a first-of-its-kind coordinated effort between government, tech platforms, and advocacy groups to tackle targeted anti-LGBT+ violence.

Spencer Rascoff Restructures Tinder as Match Group Faces Decline

Posted on March 27, 2026

BUSINESS INSIDER –  Spencer Rascoff has reshaped Tinder over the past year, taking over from Faye Iosotaluno. He is reorganizing the company into smaller, flatter teams, and operating it more like a startup. At the same time, Justin McLeod and Hesam Hosseini have exited, with the COO role not being replaced. The shift comes as Match Group faces pressure, with its stock falling from ~$150 to $30 and removal from the S&P 500, while Tinder downloads declined from 61M in 2021 to 48Min 2025. Meanwhile, Hinge is growing and on track to become a billion-dollar business. Rascoff is focusing on Gen Z and pushing new features to reverse Tinder’s slowdown and re-energize the app.

Tinder Requires Facial Scan for New UK Users

Posted on March 27, 2026
Tinder Face Check

MASHABLE – New Tinder users in the UK must complete a facial scan to sign up, using a feature called Face Check. Users take a video selfie, which is checked against their profile photos and used to detect duplicate accounts, after which they receive a verification badge. The requirement is already in place in the U.S., Canada, Australia, India, and other regions. The rollout follows earlier verification steps, including photo, video, and ID checks, and aligns with new UK regulations such as the Online Safety Act.

Tinder Introduces AI-Powered Photo Selection for Better Matches

Posted on March 20, 2026
Tinder

NEW YORK POST – Tinder has introduced a new feature that scans a user’s camera roll to analyze patterns, generate “photo insights,” and suggest stronger profile pictures, aiming to improve match quality through AI-driven personalization. The feature is optional, and users still choose what gets shared. Still, it requires access to one of the most personal spaces on a phone. That’s why it’s raising questions. At its core, this is a simple trade-off between convenience and privacy.
