NYC Women Refunded by Great Expectations

Posted on November 9, 2005

Great_expectationsASSOCIATED PRESS– Nov 7 — A Manhattan judge ruled one woman was to be refunded the $1,000 she had paid for a six-month membership to Great Expectations after she met no one through the service. The judge awarded the other woman the $3,790 she paid for a 54-month deal.  The judge found that "there was a massive overcharge by the dating service" and that Great Expectations' contract "violated every mandate of the Dating Services Law" except for the three-day "cooling off" right to cancel.  The dating service will appeal, spokesman Bob Liff said Monday.

Yahoo, Google to Launch Wireless Services

Posted on November 9, 2005

YahooBIZ REPORT — Nov 7 — Yahoo and Google are set to roll out new wireless services to take advantage of advanced networks and cellphones to provide features similar to those available on computers.  Yahoo will introduce a cellphone it will sell through a partnership with SBC Communications to take Yahoo a step closer to linking music, photos and email with consumers' existing online accounts and address books.

The full article was originally published at Biz Report, but is no longer available.

Mark Brooks: Webdate, Match and Lavalife all offer mobile phone based dating.  Webdate offers a more advanced 'downloadable app' and allows users to search their entire database of over 4 million, rather than a limited set of mobile-only users.

Microsoft Lead Suitor for AOL

Posted on November 9, 2005

MsnBIZ REPORT — Nov 7 — Microsoft aims to fold its MSN Internet service into a venture with AOL. Any agreement would be several weeks away.  One issue that has yet to be resolved would be how the venture would be governed. Time Warner does not want to cede control unless it receives a "very rich offer," the NYT said. Other suitors seeking a stake include Google, Comcast, Yahoo and News Corporation.

The full article was originally published at Biz Report, but is no longer available.

Mark Brooks: AOL and MSN are currently partnered with Match.com for online dating.  Yahoo might want to change that.
