OPW — July 31 — On July 22nd PlentyofFish attempted to establish a world record for the largest speed dating event held under one roof. I asked Markus how the event went. It was a success. Markus said, "the hosts will have the count in the next few days, they have to count all the registrations. Someone at the door counted 251 couples holding hands and leaving at the end of the night. We had too many women so they had to turn a few away." The Guinness world record event rules were incredibly stringent. The whole event had to run like clockwork. Here are the pictures from the event. What’s even more amazing is the teamwork that was required to bring the event together. It was all completed by volunteers. PlentyofFish is the last remaining, absolutely, really, no REALLY, completely free internet dating site. (Others such as OKcupid are mostly free but still have membership options with added features available for a few bucks a month). It continues to move up the internet dating site rankings and is currently ranked #2 in Canada (Comscore) and #6 in USA (Hitwise). – Mark Brooks

Offline events are cool and all but they do little to grow your site. The users that attend them end up being users that never use dating sites.
What i find amazing is that women flock to offline events like speed dating and you have to drag men kicking and screaming.
In the bigger picture free dating is becoming trendy because of social networking valuations. I’m getting a lot more media inquiries and attention. UNfortunately unlike social networking 30% of my users walk away every month so it makes for slow sustained growth.
