SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE – May 15 – Proposed California bill SB242 would place tight restrictions with heavy violation penalties on social networking sites. Under the proposal, SB242, social-networking sites would have to allow users to establish their privacy settings at registration instead of after they join and set information to private by default, among other restrictions. The bill is facing heavy opposition from online companies.
