Survey Results: What Proportion Of Your Dating Site User Transactions Fail Each Month?

Posted on May 9, 2011

Online-survey OPW – May 9 – I heard from Daniela at iTelebill that transaction failure rates are a rising problem in the idating industry. Really? So, we asked you this survey question. What proportion of your dating site user transactions fail each month?

There were 64 respondents. You said. 34% of you had more than 15% of your transactions fail each month. 12% of you had 10-15% fail. 12% saw 5-10% of transactions fail, and 12% saw 2-5% fail. 28% of you said you had minimal failure rates. So, yes, it does seem like a serious problem for over half of you.

This survey was kindly sponsored by iTelebill and Optimal Payments. Both these companies can help you with this problem.

Shaadi.com Surveys Attitudes On Marriage

Posted on May 9, 2011

Shaadi logo WSJ – May 9 – Shaadi.com is out with its annual survey of its 150K members’ matrimonial attitudes. 54% of women prefer living in a “joint family” after marriage–alongside parents and siblings–whereas only 21% want to be in a “nuclear set-up.” On education, only 10% of men said they would prefer a woman more educated than them, versus 69% of women who say they want their partner to be more educated than them. Still, ~85% of men want their wife to have a job rather than be a homemaker. ~54% of men and 46% of women–said caste is not a factor in evaluating their partners.

Beyond Groupon: Deals Get Creative

Posted on May 9, 2011

Inboxcupid logo TWINCITIES.COM – May 7 – A service called Inbox Cupid takes a Groupon-flavored approach to Internet-centric matchmaking. Users supply an email address and tell the service their home city and which gender they want to date. Then they begin receiving daily deals (dates). If one such prospect seems like a perfect match, getting in touch is a cinch (and costs only a buck).

Posted on May 8, 2011

Plentyoffish french picture OPW – May 8 – POF is now translated into French, Spanish and German. The Italian version is on the way, apparently. The translations aren't too good. Meetic, watch out. (Full Disclosure: POF was a client of Courtland Brooks from 2006 to 2010)

Clique: Matchmaker With Help From Social Media

Posted on May 6, 2011

Clique logo HUFFINGTON POST – May 5 – Clique, a new dating site, eliminates the uncertainty of the purely anonymous by matching singles to friends, and friends of friends. Christy Purington, founder of Clique, said of her reasons for starting the site. "The best dates I was going on was through friends of mine. There had to be a way to access this network of people my friends had that you're not regularly exposed to unless you're at a party with them or they set you up." Though Clique started out as an invitation-only site, it's now open to all comers. But the major feature that distinguishes the site from other dating sites is one simple policy: you can only interact with people who are at least two degrees of separation from you.

Mark Brooks: Engage.com tried this in the past, but I like this new guise and branding of the 'friends matchmaking' concept.

Paypal Bans WhatsYourPrice.com

Posted on May 6, 2011

Whatsyourprice logo ONLINE DATING POST – May 5 – PayPal has deemed WhatsYourPrice morally unsuitable and turned off their account. Brandon Wade, Founder and CEO of WhatsYourPrice commented: "Paypal has decided that accepting money for going on a first date should be banned, while it has for years provided payment for dating sites, such as Ashley Madison, that promote infidelity. Obviously, PayPal has a double ethical standard where it’s not okay to pay for a date, unless you want to cheat on your spouse."
