An OkCupid Experiment

Posted on June 20, 2012

Okcupid-on-trialZDNET – June 20 – Amateur data analyst Jon Millward published the results of ten fake OkCupid profiles to asess the male-female dynamic in online dating. Men face extreme competition. The two most attractive women received 83% of all messages. It took 2 months, 13 days for the most popular woman’s inbox to fill up. It would take the most popular man 2.3 years to fill up his. Most men compliment the attractive women a lot or they ask a general question about travel or something equally boring.

Millward concluded that a successful message should:

  • Demonstrate creativity, intelligence and great sense of humour
  • Be totally different to anything she may have received before
  • Be obviously unique and not a cut-and-paste job
  • Show that I’ve read her profile and absorbed facts about her
  • Not be needy

Interview With Yannick Rolland, Co-Founder Of CheckHimOut.com

Posted on June 19, 2012

Check Him OutONLINEDATINGSITES.NET – June 18 - At CheckHimOut, women do the browsing, and only those men whom she chooses are allowed to contact her.

Q: Where did you come up with the idea for CheckHimOut?
A: From our observation. Women are submerged with outrageous numbers of more-or-less appropriate messages. And men spend hours writing thoughtful messages only to be discarded.

Q: How do you get men to join?
A: Men will not face this type of rejection, since they can be assured that the women that they are in contact with were interested in them in the first place.

Q: What is the gender ratio?
A: Female:male ratio of 60:40.

Q: Are there any ways in which a male member can try to initiate contact?
A: Not until a woman has chosen to start contact with them. Before communication is unlocked, men can send a crush alert or a virtual gift. They can also advertise themselves by bidding for a chance to become the product of the day.

Q: What ways do women show their interest in another member?
A: Women may directly communicate with any man via private messaging, chatting and sending personalized gifts.

Q: What kind of feedback have you gotten from your site?
A: The feedback we get from women is extremely positive.

Q: Men can earn credits to purchase virtual gifts. How a man goes about earning credits and what virtual gifts are used for?
A: Men must purchase credits in order to connect or send gifts. Women only need credits to send virtual gifts; all other type of communication is free for them. Virtual gifts could be a bouquet of flowers or a diamond ring. They vary in price, ranging from 0 to 1000 credits. We reward users for being active.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We aim to earn our first million members by Valentine’s day 2013. We will be launching our mobile app soon.

Cheaterville logoSTAR TRIBUNE – June 18 – If you have a profile on CheaterVille, chances are you didn't create it. These profiles are pretty comprehensive. Miss Travel: Dating Site For Reckless Women?

Posted on June 19, 2012

Misstravel s¨picture THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT – June 19 – A new dating site called Miss Travel claims to help women fly around the world in style, all funded by high-powered men who have everything in their lives except a committed relationship. In order to qualify ladies have to be “attractive”. Although the site does advise women always to meet men in their own home city before travelling anywhere, it also admits it does absolutely nothing to vet their backgrounds. The man behind Miss Travel is Brandon Wade, founder of SeekingArrangement.com and WhatsYourPrice.com.
