More Expats Using Chinese Dating Apps

Posted on May 13, 2016

Dating app chinaGLOBAL TIMES – May 11 – Chinese dating apps have been seeing growing popularity among expats living in China but cultural obstacles remain. Among the most popular apps, both for Chinese and foreign singles, are Tantan, Momo and Skout. Tantan claims one user for every 10 Chinese users in expat-heavy neighborhoods. Expats quickly discovered that while women in the West generally start out chatting about shared interests, Chinese women are more likely to ask about his job and future plans.

Iran’s Regime-approved Dating Site

Posted on May 13, 2016

Hamsan tebyan net screenshotTELEGRAPH.CO.UK – May 11 – hamsan.tebyan.net is a government-approved dating site. Profile pictures are forbidden and parents must accompany would-be couples on their first dates. The aim of this website is to use Islamic principles to get singles together. The regime is worried about Iran's fertility rate. The number of births per woman of child-bearing age has fallen from 7 in 1980 to 1.8 in 2014 – below Britain's fertility rate of 1.9. Tinder is banned in Iran, but ~350 unofficial dating sites are believed to exist.

Dating Sites: A Magnet For Hackers?

Posted on May 12, 2016

HackedITPRO.CO.UK – May 9 – The Ashley Madison attack in July 2015 revealed the sensitive data of 37M people. Adult Friend Finder was also hacked, with the personal details of 4M users leaked, including their IP addresses and dates of birth. More recently, BeautifulPeople also had their details leaked online. "Dating sites contain a very high level of personal information, which can be very valuable in the wrong hands and quite damaging for those involved," said Rob Norris, director of enterprise and cybersecurity for EMEIA at Fujitsu. Are dating sites targeted more frequently than other sites? According to David Emm, principal security researcher as Kaspersky Lab, the answer is not necessarily. "Dating sites certainly draw a lot of media interest," said Emm. "Hacks happen to other sites but is a less newsworthy story."
