China Regulator Studying Issue Of Overseas-listed Firms Delisting To List In China

Posted on May 9, 2016

Momo app logoDEALSTREET ASIA – May 8 – China's securities regulator is analysing the impact of overseas-listed Chinese companies coming home to relist on mainland exchanges, potentially bad news for tech firms trying to come home and cash in on high valuations. The valuation gap between the domestic and overseas market and speculation on shell companies should be paid attention to, said Zhang Xiaojun, a spokesman for the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). The regulator made the comments following rumours that it would block domestic listings by companies currently listed overseas. "For companies already in the process of relisting at home, the faster they get done the better because regulatory uncertainties are rising," said a banker, who declined to be identified. Dating app Momo is one of the companies that wants to relist in China.

How Robyn Exton Grew Popular Lesbian Dating App Her

Posted on May 9, 2016

Her robyn exton 2016BBC NEWS – May 9 – When Robyn Exton first launched her dating and social networking app for lesbians and bisexual women in 2013, a lack of cash for advertising meant she'd go to nightclubs armed with bottles of spirits. "I'd go to nightclubs with a bottle of sambuca in one hand, and tequila in the other, and encourage girls to download the app in return for a shot," she says. Her app now has more than one million female users around the world. Her has raised $2.5M in funding, with US investors including Michael Birch, founder of social network Bebo, and Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of news platform Reddit. However, it has yet to make any money. Revenues may finally start to arrive later this year when Her launches a premium version of the app.

The Blind Date Club Wants To Turn Echo Speaker Into A Matchmaker

Posted on May 9, 2016

Amazon alexaTECH CRUNCH – May 9 – To use The Blind Date Club, users begin by simply asking Alexa to find them a date. Like Tinder, the app then returns a somewhat randomized match based on geo-location. But instead of swiping based on the person's looks, the app reads that person's profile and details common interests. In theory, these dating profiles would also be created by voice with users answering a series of questions posed by Alexa. Blind Date Club used dummy profiles to showcase how the technology works.

The Top 22 Things I Learned At Grow.co’s MAU Conference

Posted on May 8, 2016

Grow-Mobile-Apps-Unlocked-Mar-4-5-2016OPW – May 8 – Mobile Apps Unlocked was last week and was a smorgasbord of learning and networking. There were a couple people speaking from Tinder. Here's some of the things I learned that are most notable IMHO.

  • Tinder uses
    *Appboy for mobile marketing automation
    *Singular for analysis
    *mParticle for standardising calls
  • It's important to use both email and notifications in tandem
  • Yik Yak found that its optimal to send global notifications every couple of days
  • Personalise your push notifications and you could see 800% open rate increase
  • Consider your 'critical events' i.e. what actions show users getting value
  • Measure your critical events and figure out daily use
  • Make segmentation a core competency
  • Look at user behavior, character-type your users and you'll be able to figure out how hard you'll need to work to retain groups of them
  • If you don't have a data scientist, consider hiring one
  • On Twitter, a good bet is to pay to promote other people's tweets about your brand
  • Check out Kamcord. Could be good for promoting dating apps
  • Instagram should get you better ad ROI than Facebook right now (~10%)
  • Youtube should be at the core of your influencer marketing program
  • If people see your brand advertised on TV they will perceive you as a large brand
  • Millenials still consume more TV media than any other media
  • Post transaction surveys are probably the best way of measuring offline advertising
  • Ad budgets are shifting towards video, also social, also programmatic ads
  • Lo-quality videos can do very well
  • Look at your retention and ARPU by marketing channel and source
  • Consider partnering with an established loyalty program
  • Think about how you can become your customer's ritual
  • Here's a handy table of App Data SDK's courtesy of mParticle

OkCupid Is Blasted For Asking Users Inappropriate Question

Posted on May 7, 2016

Okcupid screenshotDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – May 5 – OkCupid has been criticised after posing a question to users asking: 'Would the world be a better place if people with a low IQs were not allowed to reproduce?' The question was posed during the sign up process for the website, after which users are matched with potential love interests. Campaigners with learning disability charity Mencap have branded the question 'inappropriate, offensive and discriminatory', and want it to be removed from the site, as well as an apology from OkCupid. So far ~400 people have signed the poll on Change.org.

There’s Another App For Rating People – Stroovy

Posted on May 7, 2016

Stroovy screenshotsMASHABLE – May 5 – A new app called Stroovy aims to help users vet the people they meet on dating sites by reading and writing reviews based on their experience. The idea is similar to Lulu. But, unlike Lulu's reviews, Stroovy takes reviews from users of all genders. The app also requires users sign up with their phone numbers to prevent people from making duplicate accounts. Stroovy is iOS only for now but an Android app is in the works.

How Couples Spy With Anti-cheating Apps

Posted on May 7, 2016

Spying appsTHE GUARDIAN – May 5 – Some couples use Swipebuster, FlexiSPY and mSpy to track each other's texts and Tinder swipes. Swipebuster scans Tinder's public database and reveals whether someone has a profile and the last time they used it for $4.99. FlexiSPY and mSpy, once covertly installed, enable remote surveillance of a person's phone. On the more ethical side are apps such as Couple Tracker and mCouple that allow partners to access each other's texts, calls, Facebook activity and GPS location.
