Whitney Wolfe, The Queen Bee Of Digital Dating
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 5 – Dating app Bumble, which now boasts 12.5M users, is the brainchild of Whitney Wolfe, a 27-year-old entrepreneur. 'I'm a very confident person, but I felt as if I was always supposed to be more submissive when it came to dating,' says Whitney, former VP of marketing at Tinder. 'If I make the first move, I'm perceived as a crazy girl. That's not fair. With Bumble, we're serious about putting women in the driver's seat', she says. 'The men who use Bumble appreciate a confident woman, a woman who has a voice,' she continues. She believes this reversal of stereotypical gender roles itself encourages better behaviour. In a little over two years, Bumble reports that it has had ~5k engagements and weddings.
TrumpSingles.com To Help Launch Trump-inspired Dating Show
MASHABLE – Mar 3 – The idea is from David Goss, the man who created TrumpSingles.com. Goss has partnered with Mark Walker of Boxx Communications to produce a TV series based on the site. The concept is still being finalized, but it will likely be a bit different from the site. It will be a competition, revolving around politics, naturally, but it won't be limited to people from TrumpSingles.com. The show is still just in the development phase – it doesn't have a network or even a name yet.

Hater’s Founder Has Gotten Death Threats After A Marketing Stunt In NYC
BUSINESS INSIDER – Mar 3 – Hater, a dating app that connects people based on mutual dislikes, created an image of Vladimir Putin caressing a pregnant Donald Trump and projected it on buildings throughout New York City. The advertisement got some laughs, but it also inspired Internet backlash. Hater's founder Brendan Alper has a handful of death threats sitting in his Facebook inbox, and has decided against heading to an upcoming tech conference in Moscow, Russia. The app is only about a month old, but it's amassed ~30k daily active users, ~310k total users in the US and abroad — it's the top lifestyle app in Germany right now, the company says — and has produced close to 200k matches so far. The next step is figuring out how to make money. Alper has no plans to make the app a subscription-only service, have a paid tier, or show ads. Instead, he hopes to monetize in different ways, like letting brands pay to show themselves as a topic in the app and giving anonymized demographic data back to the brand.
What Dating Sites Are Doing To Keep Users Safe
BBC.COM – Mar 3 – Many dating sites and apps issue guidelines, such as never to give out personal information and to watch out for odd language in messages or personal profiles, for example. Many insist they apply security measures, but won't reveal what systems they use. A spokesman for Match.com said: "We have a dedicated team who monitor security on the site, through both up-to-date technology and human checks. "Bigger organizations will use a variety of datasets as part of their counter-fraud solutions," says Andrew McClelland, CEO of the Online Dating Association (ODA). Some experts believe dating sites could be doing more to analyze the language people use. Last year a group of researchers at London's City University compared tens of thousands of emails pre-identified as lies with those known to be truthful. The algorithm analyzed their word use, structure and context for linguistic differences. Liars cannot generate deceptive emails from actual memory so they avoid spontaneity to evade detection. Algorithms can pick up on these traits.
Study: OkCupid Is Wrong About Men’s Dating Photos
PHOTOFEELER – Feb 7 – 2010 OKCupid's study on male dating photos fails reproducibility. In the post called The 4 Big Myths of Profile Pictures, OKCupid said that non-smiling profile pictures had a better response rate. In Tinder's last roundup of the top 100 male profiles, all of them were smiling in their lead picture. According to the latest PhotoFeeler study whether men smile or not makes no statistically-significant difference (except in the case of eye contact and no smile, which is harmful). PhotoFeeler is a tool for testing profile pics.See full article at PhotoFeeler blog
