Dating App Happii Has “Immersive” Profiles
STANDARD.CO.UK – Apr 12 – Happii's aim is to create comprehensive "immersive" profiles that give a greater sense of who users (really) are. On their page they can share holiday snaps, funny videos, playlists, film trailers and books. Instead of a static photo, users can upload a profile video. To encourage proper engagement, the first message must be at least 100 characters. The app launches in autumn, but it's currently creating hype with a pre-registration: the first 5k people will get free lifetime membership (otherwise, it's £12.50 a month).

State-Run Dating Events Is Taiwan’s Solution To Aging Society
BLOOMBERG – Apr 11 – Taiwan recorded more deaths than births in March for a second straight month, and government data show Taiwan officially became an "aged society", with ~14% of the population 65 or older. Only Japan, where 28% are 65+, has a higher proportion of elderly people in East Asia. Government-sponsored dating events are just one of a series of measures aimed at addressing the problem. Officials are also moving to provide more social housing for young people and promoting immigration as a way to tilt the population back to youth.

Whitney Wolfe Herd: How To Build A Workplace Where Women Can Thrive
REFINERY29 – Apr 11 – When Whitney started Bumble in 2014 she noticed a gender imbalance in the dating world that she wanted to help solve. What began as her own small way of tackling inequity has turned into her life's mission: empowering women to make the first move in all areas of their lives. When women fight for a higher salary, they can often feel guilty. When men fight for more pay, they feel empowered. Bumble instituted a semi-annual review that includes a mandatory open discussion about salary. Pay is, of course, just a part of the equation that keeps women back in the working world. The other part is opportunity, especially for mothers. Bumble developed a culture that flexes to allow kids to work alongside parents when needed.
