Gay Dating App Jack’d Is Allegedly Exposing Private Photos to the Public

Posted on February 6, 2019

Jackd logo oct 16THE REGISTER – Feb 5 – Gay dating app Jack'd lets gay and bi men chat each other up, exchange private and public pics, and arrange to meet. The photos, public and private, can be accessed by anyone with a web browser and who knows just where to look, though, it appears. As there is no authentication, no need to sign up to the app, and no limits in place, the entire image database can therefore be downloaded and used for a blackmail. Apparently, the developers of the app were warned of the security vulnerability three months ago, and yet no fix has been made.

Posted on February 4, 2019

The dating assets consist principally of the FirstMet dating service, which was founded in 2007. Alex Harrington, CEO of PeerStream, commented: "as we shifted our corporate strategy it became clear that the dating assets were non-core and suffered from lack of management attention, resulting in underperformance in 2018, including a significant revenue decline and negative cash flow."

Match Won’t Burn From Facebook’s Heat

Posted on February 4, 2019

Match group logo jan 2017WALL STREET JOURNAL – Feb 4 – Match Group is betting love seekers will still pay up for privacy in their dating lives. Given Facebook's struggles over data leaks recently, that seems like a solid bet. Data suggest Match's users prefer the separation of their dating lives from their social lives. Originally, new users joining Tinder had to do so with Facebook. Now they are given the option of signing up via SMS. Match reported in May that 75% of new users sign up via SMS rather than Facebook after the change, which took effect in 2017. Match Group shares are now up more than 48% for the last six months, fetching a valuation of about 35 times forward earnings.

Jaumo logoDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Feb 4 – Research of 30K single people in the UK, US, Canada and Germany, has found that ~59% of daters are willing to have sex on the first date. German men and Canadian women are the most open-minded. Dating app Jaumo – which was founded in 2011 by Jens Kammerer and Benjamin Roth – also asked their users if they would be open to having unprotected sex outside of a relationship, and surprisingly people were open to it, despite the risk.

Tinder CEO Explains What Gives It an Edge Over Rivals in the Dating Market

Posted on February 4, 2019

Tinder elie seidman 2019BLOOMBERG – Feb 3 – Tinder said availability of cheap data and increasing use of smartphones triggered the growth of Tinder in India. "It's just the beginning," said CEO Elie Seidman in an interview. Tinder has ~4.1M paying subscribers globally. Though the basic app is free, it's the extra paid features that drives the company's revenue, Seidman said. ~95% of the overall revenue comes from paid services. Tinder is the second-most grossing app in India, he said, without revealing the number of users in the country who are paying for its features. Seidman said the smaller markets are growing faster than the bigger cities.
