Tinder Is Giving Out Blue Ticks to Verified Users

Posted on January 27, 2020

Tinder blue tickMETRO.CO.UK – Jan 27 – Tinder has come up with a photo verification method whereby selected users will be asked to take a selfie that matches a pose shown by a model in a sample image. Tinder advises doing this twice before requesting verification. The photos are then sent to Tinder's community team, which determines whether the account is legitimate or not. If all is as it should be, a blue checkmark will be assigned to the account. Tinder is also working on a tool to weed out potentially offensive messages. The new moves come after a partnership with safety app Noonlight which give daters an easy way to call emergency services.

B2B Videoconferencing Startup Went Crazy for Online Dating

Posted on January 27, 2020

Ahoi iconTECH CRUNCH – Jan 24 – Founder Andreas Kröpfl has spent almost a decade building a videoconferencing business. His Austria-based startup's current web-based videoconferencing system, eyeson, which launched in 2018, has had some nice traction since launch, garnering a few million customers. Last summer the team decided to branch out by building their own video dating app. The app, called Ahoi, is now generating 100k video calls and 250k swipes per day, says Kröpfl. They picked India for the test launch because it has a lot of people on the same timezone, a large active mobile user-base and cheap marketing is still "easily possible".

The Case for Governments Taking an Interest in Internet Dating

Posted on January 25, 2020

Declining populationOPW – Jan 25 – Could demographic declines lead to Governments taking an interest in Internet dating. If so, what might that look like? Populations in many developed countries are on the decline as fertility rates plummet, according to an article in Financial Times last week.

According to the UN "27 countries have fewer people now than in 2010 …and it expects 55 countries, including China, to experience declines by 2050." Falling populations will become the norm. That's very bad for economic output and growth, which could also be bad for living standards. So, what's a good Government to do? – Mark Brooks, Host – IDEA.gp, CEO – Courtland Brooks Agency/Consultancy

Dating Apps Need to Offer Something More Than Swiping

Posted on January 24, 2020

Dating apps picFORBES – Jan 23 – ~25M people use dating apps, and the online dating sector will be worth $12B by the end of 2020. Worldwide, however, dating app downloads for the 15 most-popular apps decreased to 247M in 2018, from 256M in 2017. The swiping format that once felt fresh and exciting has proved fruitless for many. esearch suggests that compulsive swiping makes people feel lonelier. "People are looking for deeper connections, a deeper way of getting to know someone beyond a photo level," says Adam Cohen-Aslatei, the founder and CEO of S'More. S'More bills itself as a "relationship app", and directs users to interact with each others' profiles before sending messages or even seeing pictures. Apps that target a certain age bracket, ethnicity or religious community, also have a chance to do well. Other companies are trying to bridge the gap between online and real life connections. Last year Feeld, an app aimed at non-monogamous singles and couples, launched the Feeld Social – events with interactive talks and performances.
