MEDIA POST – Jan 7 – The "If Commitment Is Your Thing" campaign, developed with Publicis Groupe's Marcel, uses one overarching message that opens with what is thought of as a romantic moment before revealing two individuals who are actually engaged in mundane activities, such as hanging a picture on a wall or dancing with a baby. Each snippet is designed to appeal to a core membership target, including single parents as well as same-sex and interracial couples. "In a society that values casual dating and one-night stands, it feels good to tell the world that more serious relationships and commitment are as cool and sexy," stated Youri Guerassimov and Gaetan du Peloux, executive creative directors at Marcel Worldwide. The campaign will roll out in France, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Norway, airing across TV, radio, social and digital.

Sexual Health Programs Are Using Gay Dating Apps to Get Users Tested for HIV
NBC NEWS – Jan 6 – Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is thought to be the first health center in New York City to incorporate gay dating apps such as Grindr, Jack'd and Scruff into its sexual health efforts. Staffers interact with other users with their own account like a regular user would – except they offer sexual health services. The center says the innovative approach is working: Since its launch in 2016, the program has attracted ~300 clients to the facility, and at least one other community health clinic has launched a similar program. CAMBA, in Brooklyn, has seen similar success using gay dating apps to reach individuals at high-risk of HIV infection: From 2017 to 2018, 65% of its clients linked to PrEP or PEP services were reached through apps apps like Grindr.

S’More Dating App Hides Users’ Faces Until After the Chat
ELLE – Jan 3 – Brand new online dating app S'More (which stands for "something more") prioritizes conversation over selfies. Users receive recommended profiles each day chosen specifically for them by an algorithm that factors in values, passions, preferences, and behaviors. All photos are blurred out. The more users engage and chat with someone, the more their pictures un-blur. S'More founder Adam Cohen-Aslatei says the idea was born out of a frustration people feel with the current "hot or not" swipe trend on apps. The idea is to encourage users to get to know a match first, before seeing what they look like.
Study Suggests Tinder is not Very Effective for Finding New Sexual Partners
PSYPOST – Jan 1 – Tinder has been described as a "hook-up app" – but new research published in Evolutionary Psychological Science suggests that it is not particularly effective at facilitating one-night stands. Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology were interested in how differences in motivations for using Tinder were related to sexual encounters. In the study, the researchers surveyed 269 Norwegian university students who were former or current Tinder users. Only 54 participants reported engaging in one-night stands following Tinder use and the majority of them had only experienced this once. 80% did not achieve any sexual encounter thanks to Tinder and 13% achieved only one. Only 3% achieved two sexual encounters and 4% achieved more than two. Using data from their new study, the researchers calculated that it took 57 matches on average for a user to have one meeting with a potential partner.

ID verification would be a smart and innovative solution for verifying legitimate identities and authenticating profiles. Bumble and Wild are great examples, as they require all users to upload a photo of themselves in one of 100 poses to begin interaction. This data is verified manually. If you're looking to implement ID verification, here are some things you'll want to consider:
- Only use official and verified data sources.
- Use multiple sources.
- Verify your provider.
