Dating Apps Test the Price of Love

Posted on October 6, 2022

The price of soulmateWALL STREET JOURNAL – A decade into the dating-app era, many apps have switched from free to "freemium" models, offering paid subscriptions and a la carte features that are meant to improve the odds of finding a match. The most popular dating apps all offer paid memberships that can run from $12 a month to $600 a year. Dating app executives say that while paying isn't necessary to find a match, paid features can help users save time and find connections more easily. The free version of Hinge has a limit on the number of likes each user can send and displays blurred photos. The paid version offers users unlimited likes and clearly displays the profiles of users who like them. Another common add-on is a "boost," where a user's profile is shown to more people in a set period. Tinder has 10.9M paid users to date and is currently at work on a new paid feature, says Faye Iosotaluno, the company's COO.

According to the survey, 56% of online daters have deleted a dating app because of a poor talking stage experience. 80% of respondents reported spending 1–5 hours per week in talking stage conversations that go nowhere and will pay for a service like CanWe which identifies relationship potential with matches.

Match.com Ad Banned From TikTok for Being ‘Sexist’

Posted on October 5, 2022

Match.com campaignMYLONDON – A TikTok ad posted by Match.com has been banned from the platform for perpetuating negative gender stereotypes. The post showed clips of a couple in their home, with one scene showing the man sitting in a chair with his feet up and on the phone while a female voiceover said: "Things that make him realize I'm a keeper." The voiceover then continues, saying: "I will make him his protein shake after the gym", "I always make sure he has a fresh towel and socks after his shower", and "I put the football on for him every evening". The TikTok ad ended with the woman saying: "Find your keeper via Match. Go download the Match app today." Match.com said the ad formed part of a three-video storyline, which also showed gestures carried out by the man for the woman.

Dating App “The Right Stuff” Launched to Negative Reviews

Posted on October 5, 2022

The Right Stuff logo for social mediaINDEPENDENT.CO.UK – The dating platform currently has a 2.4-star rating in Apple's App Store. The Right Stuff, an invite-only dating app backed by conservative PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, launched last month after a widely mocked marketing campaign, which included promises of "profiles without pronouns" and a way for conservatives to avoid the "woke" dating apps. In addition to concerns about the "safety" of the platform, the most common complaint is the app's invite-only aspect. The app has also sparked mixed reviews among the conservative individuals it intends to target. One user claimed that the platform is actually a place for "extremists to meet".

Bumble Is Testing Speed Dating

Posted on October 4, 2022

BumbleTECH CRUNCH – Bumble has been quietly testing a speed dating feature in the U.K., which allows users to join the app on a designated night and time to engage in brief chats with other members before they've seen their photo or matched. If the date goes well, the members can choose to match to keep the conversation going. Bumble has been offering speed dating on Thursdays at 7 PM in the U.K. However, according to some posts by users on social media, the service didn't always have enough users to get the game started. Others who tried it had positive things to say about the experience, however.
