Based in our hometown #Hamburg, #WelcomingOut is advocating #LGBTIQ+ rights in a very smart and effective way. The organization's Patrons: companies, associations, and councils, commit to fostering a climate that makes it easier for members of the LGBTIQ+ community to have their coming out – a step which for many people is still more complicated than one might think. #ParshipMeetGroup has a special responsibility in this area. The right to love is universal. Our collaboration is designed as a meaningful relationship where both parties grow together. The Five Biggest Lessons of the Year

Posted on December 21, 2022

coupleBBC – In 2022, more folks openly moved away from both gender and attraction binaries. Online daters got increasingly vocal about exploring different types of relationships, from solo polyamory to platonic life partnerships. Gen Z has particularly embraced the grey area of dating by purposefully entering into 'situationships'. Overall, openness towards many kinds of non-traditional relationships has gained visibility, too. Ethical non-monogamy has been all over TikTok, often in the form of polyamorous relationships. For single people, navigating dating apps has still been hard. It's undeniable that dating apps have become the primary way for younger daters to meet, with thousands of online dating sites in existence and 48% of 18 to 29-year-olds in the US using them.

How Bumble Is Empowering Women Across APAC

Posted on December 20, 2022

Bumble logoTHE DRUM – Bumble, which has a presence in India, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, including Singapore and the Philippines, wants to normalize the idea of making romantic connections through an app, which still carries a stigma in several Asian cultures. Many of Bumble's campaigns focus on normalizing making connections online. In Singapore, 87% of people surveyed believed that men should take the lead, and only 7% said that this is what is expected of women. Bumble's 'It Starts With Hello' campaign for the Philippines and Singapore encourages women to overcome their hesitation by making it as simple as typing "hello". Australia's "Girls will be Girls" campaign takes a bolder approach to Bumble's women-first positioning. The campaign re-imagined what it would look like if women were afforded the same freedom as men.

Tinder Users Are Using ChatGPT to Message Matches

Posted on December 19, 2022

TinderMASHABLE – Once they match with someone, Tinder users ask ChatGPT for an opening message based on their interests. Then they copy and paste the output and send it to their match. One "Tinder veteran" used ChatGPT to generate a poem for his match. She loved it, saying a guy hadn't written a poem for her before. With using an AI bot on Tinder, there are potential ethical concerns at play here; the dominant from these examples is disclosure. How would a match feel if they knew the messages were AI-generated?

What Dating Apps Do to Our Brain

Posted on December 19, 2022

Dating appsTHE SUN – ~323M people currently use one or more dating apps worldwide, according to Business of Apps. Statista reports that in the U.S. alone, that figure stands at ~53M people. Some praise the apps for their convenience, but there is clear evidence that dating apps affect our emotions – and not always for the better. Dating apps can leave users feeling low after using them, with increased feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety. Dating apps can provide a convenient and efficient way for people to meet, however, they can also lead to increased feelings of loneliness and isolation, as well as a distorted sense of self-worth and body image.

News by Company – Super Useful Reference List

Posted on December 15, 2022

Opwnews logoOPW – One of the things that makes OPW.news special is the "News By Company" historical reference list.

Online Personals Watch was started in 2004 and we have faithfully catalogued the news on hundreds of dating apps. OPW has become quite a useful historical research tool at this stage. So, I'd like to point out a little link on the sidebar of OPW that may be useful for you. If you'd like to look up a company and see their news in summary format, along with any interviews that I may have done with them over the years, please see "News By Company", on the OPW sidebar on web, or down below if you're reading OPW on mobile. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page to see the DeadPool, as well. Let me know any questions. 😉 – mark@courtlandbrooks.com
