Daniel Cheaib – Dating Startup Stories (Feels) – From Idea to Success

Posted on June 20, 2023

LTR – Daniel Cheaib along with some friends and hired individuals, built Feels, a software product in the consumer space. Daniel transitioned from working in MMA and strategic consulting to pursue his long-desired goal of building a software product. With the rise of online interactions, especially among younger generations, Daniel wanted to create a safe and entertaining experience for his children and others. Recognizing that traditional dating apps had become monotonous with swipe-based features, Daniel and his team aimed to take an orthogonal approach to create a more engaging product. They focused on two main aspects: content sharing and shared experiences. They encouraged users to share more videos and engage in activities together within the app. Feels provides an immersive experience, allowing users to interact with each other based on the experiences they share. The app features profiles, reminiscent of TikTok, where users can scroll through content without immediately making a decision. The goal is to make the dating experience more immersive and ultimately retain users who may have become dissatisfied with other dating apps. Although Feels has gained traction and a strong community in France since its launch in Apr 2021, there is still room for iteration and growth. Currently, Feels has accumulated ~2.5M downloads and generates revenue primarily in France and neighboring countries.

The May LTR was kindly sponsored by technology providers Livebox by The Meet Group, Courtland Brooks and Matchmaker.com

Fired Grindr Executive Says App Places ‘Profit Over Privacy’

Posted on June 16, 2023

GrindrBLOOMBERG LAW – Former Grindr chief privacy officer, Ron De Jesus, has filed a lawsuit against Grindr, alleging wrongful termination following his objections to the company's "alarming" data privacy practices. According to De Jesus, Grindr has repeatedly violated state and international privacy laws by collecting, retaining, and sharing highly sensitive user data, including nude photos and HIV status, without explicit consent. That information was accessible by any employee or third-party vendor, he said. De Jesus' dismissal occurred shortly after raising these concerns in an email to the company's CFO. This lawsuit follows Grindr's $7M fine from the Norwegian Data Protection Agency for sharing user location and sexual orientation data with advertisers.

Podcast With Teaser AI CEO Daniel Liss About His New App

Posted on June 14, 2023

Teaser AI Daniel LissCNN – Teaser AI is using artificial intelligence to overcome a major shortcoming in the dating game: the amount of time wasted in small talk that perhaps goes nowhere in the early stages. Joining Julia to discuss is Teaser AI cofounder/CEO Daniel Liss. The app will integrate AI into the online dating process, enabling users to pair up with others and then engage in conversation with an AI representation of their match. The dating app has a "Ghosting Score" feature – if a user's score is low, their number of matches or likes could decrease. There's also an "Automatch" function that uses swiping preferences data to speed up the process of finding suitable dates. The cost for using this app is $19.99 per month.

Match 72 HoursTECH CRUNCH – Match.com is introducing a time-sensitive feature called "72 Hours" to foster more meaningful connections among its users. The feature, available weekly, allows users to message potential matches for three days before the conversation vanishes. During the designated time frame, members can select nearby profiles on a map and start conversations in hopes of making weekend plans with the other person before time runs out. Initially available in New York, the feature will gradually roll out nationwide. The idea behind "72 Hours" is to combat conversations that never move beyond the app and eventually die out.
