Why Ashley Madison Still Isn’t Dead

Posted on April 5, 2018

Ashleymadison app screenshotMASHABLE – Apr 3 – Ashley Madison now claims 191k daily active users. The company is also armed with an audit from accounting firm Ernst & Young, which verified 5,673,024 real accounts were registered in 2017 and that the ratio of active paid users male to female was 1 to 1.13. "~60% of our traffic is organic," said Ruben Buell, president and CTO of Ashley Madison's parent company Ruby Life. The company hired a new chief privacy officer and chief security officer who have been in charge of building a new cybersecurity framework. The site is introducing two-factor authentication in the coming months. The company has made more of an effort to cater to women, such as through marketing campaigns glorifying female users rather than male. The company currently has 153 employees in their offices in Toronto and Cyprus and plans to reach 173 by the end of the year.

Ashley Madison Threatens To Sue ‘Tinder For One Night Stands’ – CasualX

Posted on December 19, 2017

Lawsuit pic 2017METRO.CO.UK – Dec 14 – The infidelity app Ashley Madison has threatened to sue a rival sex app after accusing it of copying its trademarks. It has ordered a hook-up app called CasualX to immediately change its branding and slogan or face legal action. CasualX, which markets itself as 'the Tinder for casual sex', advertises its services with the words 'Life is boring. Desire a fling?' Ashley Madison feels this is too similar to its own slogan: 'Life is short. Have an affair.' It also called on CasualX to stop using a picture showing a masked woman pressing a finger to her lips, which is allegedly similar to an image used by Ashley Madison.

This Is How Much Dating Apps Make Every Minute

Posted on December 7, 2017

Dating apps earningsAPP DEVELOPER MAGAZINE – Dec 7 – Tech buy-back site Decluttr has crunched some numbers, looking at just how much money apps like Tinder, Bumble and Match are making every minute. Tinder is making ~$1,500 per minute. Bumble makes $172 per minute. Match and Plenty of Fish come in at third and fourth place, earning $134 and $78 per minute, respectively. Ashley Madison has struggled to recover from its 2015 data breach controversy, now making just $28 per minute. New startup Huggle is currently making just $0.10 per minute. However, with over 45M places logged in the app already, and a growing number of celebrity fans, we may see Huggle climb the rankings in 2018.

Ashley Madison Caught Exposing Cheaters’ Private Photos

Posted on December 7, 2017

Ashleymadison logo dec 2017FORBES – Dec 7 – Despite the catastrophic 2015 hack, people still use Ashley Madison to hook up with others looking for some extramarital action. For those who've stuck around, or joined after the breach, decent cybersecurity is a must. Except, according to independent researcher Matt Svensson and Bob Diachenko from cybersecurity firm Kromtech, the site has left private photos exposed to a large portion of customers. Another issue was that pictures are accessible to anyone who has the link, even those who aren't signed up to Ashley Madison. Ruby Life chief information security officer Matthew Maglieri said the company was happy to work with Svensson on the issues. "We can confirm that his findings were corrected and that we have no evidence that any user images were compromised and/or shared outside of the normal course of our member interaction," Maglieri said.

FTC Earns An Award For AshleyMadison.com Data Breach Investigation

Posted on November 23, 2017

Icdppc awards logoFTC – Nov 22 – The Federal Trade Commission, along with privacy law enforcement agencies in Australia and Canada, has received a global data protection award for its cross-border investigation of the AshleyMadison.com data breach in July 2015, which affected consumers in nearly 50 countries. In 2016, a court settlement required the defendants to implement a comprehensive data-security program and pay $1.6M to settle FTC and state actions. The Grand Award for Innovation was presented on Tuesday in Hong Kong by the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC), the premier global forum for privacy authorities, representing 119 data protection entities. The three agencies also received the top award for "Dispute Resolution, Compliance and Enforcement." The Federal Trade Commission works to promote competition, and protect and educate consumers.

Ashley Madison Users Blast Objector To $11.2M Breach Deal

Posted on October 25, 2017

Ashleymadison new design tagline july 16LAW360 – Oct 23 – Ashley Madison users suing the online dating site over a 2015 data breach urged a Missouri federal judge to grant final approval to $11.2M deal to end the dispute, arguing that the sole objector had "highly individualized" demands that could not be addressed in a class settlement. The objector, identified only as "Mr. O'Malley," had urged the court to reject the deal because he believed that Ashley Madison should pay more to him because his "personal and financial injury is still ongoing and will continue right up until he dies," and that the site was "rewarded" in the settlement by being allowed to continue to exist.

Ashley Madison Survey Reveals Why People Cheat

Posted on October 16, 2017

Ashleymadison new design tagline july 16INDEPENDENT.CO.UK – Oct 13 – Ashley Madison, an extramarital affairs dating site, asked its users why they cheat. 27% of men admitted that they would approach a friend or co-worker if they were unhappy in their current setup. Similarly, 15% of women admitted that a co-worker would be their go-to for an affair while 17% said they fantasise about having a fling with their boss. The truth is, if your partner is going to have an affair, it's likely to be with someone they already know. While satisfying sex was the main motivator, others confessed that their illicit behaviour was an attempt to be happier in the marriage, rather than to damage it.

How Ashley Madison Matured After Two Years In Exile

Posted on August 21, 2017

Ashleymadison 2017 screenshotREAL BUSINESS – Aug 18 – For the past two years, Ashley Madison has been laying low, trying to restore faith in the business. Real Business spoke with Ashley Madison VP of communications, Paul Keable, to find out more exclusively. "I think we have been very quiet. Oscar Wilde said: 'The only thing worse being talked about is not being talked about.' It's been the hardest thing to face. We worked internally to get back to market," he detailed. He admitted that, while the business has grown natively, the hacking scandal did damage growth. With 110 staff at present, there are now ~20 vacancies available to fill as Ashley Madison ramps up its efforts once more.
