On Love: ‘We Have A Deep Appreciation For Each Other’

Posted on September 29, 2013

Eharmony logo new may 13WASHINGTON POST – Sep 20 – Courtney and George met on eHarmony.com and were eager to go on a first date, but both had hectic schedules in May 2011. George was preparing for a year-long deployment as a Marine; Courtney was lobbying for KIPP DC’s charter school students on the Hill. In November 2011, George deployed, and they started to Skype every few days. In May 2012, George was allowed a two-week vacation. He planned a cruise for the couple, around the boot of Italy where George proposed on one knee on a gondola. The two bought a house together in Alexandria in December.

Mark Brooks: It's encouraging that these kinds of success stories can be pitched and
placed with upper echelon media such as the Washington Post. eHarmony
is all about success stories and testimonials. It works.

UK Dating Sites Found Body To Clean Up Industry

Posted on September 9, 2013

Onlinedatingassociation logoMARKETING WEEK – Sep 9 – UK's leading dating sites including eHarmony, Guardian Soulmates, Match.com, MySingleFriend, Dating Factory, Lovestruck, FreeDating, are founding members of the Online Dating Association (ODA), a new industry initiative. Members of the ODA will sign up to a code of conduct which insists that members are transparent with consumers over pricing models, whether they are billed on a repeated basis, data privacy, and the authenticity of dating profiles on its site.

Savers Are Sexy

Posted on August 19, 2013

Money saversREUTERS – Aug 16 – "You would think that spending would be more attractive," says Jenny Olson, a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and co-author of the working paper, "A Penny Saved is a Partner Earned: The Romantic Appeal of Savers". "Those things can also be perceived as wasteful and lacking in self-control," says Olson. "And self-control is a very desirable quality in a potential mate." New York Times money columnist Ron Lieber once asked eHarmony to dig through its 30M matches made in July 2010, and found that users who labeled themselves as savers rather than spenders were contacted 25% more by potential mates.

Mark Brooks: 'savers rather than spenders were contacted 25% more by
potential mates.'  I love these kinds of stats. The internet dating
industry can shine a light on all manner of human traits and foibles. They're fascinating! OKCupid proved this with the OKtrends blog. Why
don't we do this more often?

eHarmony Co-founder Talks Online Dating Over 80, Same-sex Marriage

Posted on July 3, 2013

Eharmony dr warren cbsCBS NEWS – July 2 – Started nearly 13 years ago, the online dating site eHarmony has
hit it off with many people, sparking the weddings of more than half-a-million
people, and five percent of marriages nationwide each year. But now the company
is experiencing success with a perhaps surprising growing demographic. Warren
said, "We've had 88,000 people over 80 apply to eHarmony. We only go to
99. We don't know of any over 100."

In addition to his company's success, Warren also discussed the controversy
surrounding his company's stance on same-sex relationships. Warren, asked if
they would have opened a separate same-sex relationship website on their own
without the discrimination lawsuit, said, "I doubt that we would have
because I didn't know anything about it."

And then turning to the subject of same-sex marriages, Warren said,
"Well, you know, that's been the biggest problem that we've had in America
for the last few years. It's kind of nice that it's kind of moving in the
direction now that it's taken care of. Now, we can turn to a much bigger issue:
We only have about 25 percent of all marriages that work. We need to get about
the task of figuring out how to make that 50 percent, 75 percent."
