WIRED – Grindr is testing an AI-powered “wingman” chatbot with 10K beta users, designed to assist with conversations, suggest matches, and provide dating advice. CEO George Arison aims to expand Grindr beyond casual hookups, integrating AI-generated chat summaries and travel-focused features. Unlike other chatbots, Grindr’s AI is open to discussing queer topics and kinks but enforces ethical boundaries. A full rollout isn’t expected until 2027.

AI in Dating Apps: Innovation or the End of Authentic Connections?

Posted on February 10, 2025

AI in dating appsWIRED – AI is rapidly integrating into dating apps, with platforms like Grindr, Tinder, Hinge, and Iris Dating adding AI-driven features like match recommendations, chatbots, and profile optimization. While some users find AI tools helpful, others are skeptical, citing concerns about authenticity, privacy, and overreliance on algorithms. Despite AI's promise to improve matchmaking, many daters still feel like part of a numbers game, questioning whether AI can truly enhance human connections or if it's just another layer of digital interference.

Grindr: $17 per Share Offers Strong Value

Posted on January 20, 2025

GrindrSEEKING ALPHA – Grindr presents an opportunity at 23x forward free cash flow, balancing revenue growth and profitability. Despite $260M in net debt, the company's consistent 45% EBITDA margins and projected 26% YOY revenue growth in 2025 make it attractive. Grindr's focus on monetization and user engagement bolsters its potential, with 2025 free cash flow estimated at $130M. Risks include slowing growth, competitive pressure, and challenges scaling further, but at $17 per share, it's a promising entry point for investors.

Dating Apps Must Block Under-18s by July After Child Abuse Cases

Posted on January 20, 2025

Ofcom logoMSN – UK communications regulator Ofcom has mandated dating apps to implement strict age verification by July 2025 to prevent under-18s from accessing their platforms. This decision follows reports linking Grindr to over 130 child abuse cases since 2019, including four rapes in 2024. Under the Online Safety Act, dating apps are classified as "user-to-user" services and must adopt robust age checks, such as photo ID verification, facial age estimation, or banking data. Companies failing to comply face fines of up to £18M or 10% of global revenue.

Grindr Implemented Return-to-Office Policy to Retaliate Against Workers for Unionizing, NLRB Says

Posted on November 5, 2024

Grindr logo GIZMODO – The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) filed a complaint against Grindr, claiming it imposed a return-to-office policy to retaliate against employees for unionizing, leading to around half of Grindr's staff leaving. Grindr allegedly refused to negotiate with the union and offered unlawful severance agreements. The remaining staff voted to unionize in December 2023, but Grindr is disputing the election because some votes were cast by ex-employees affected by the policy. If no settlement is reached, a hearing is set for March.
