Ashley Madison’s CTO: Facebook’s Dating Will Be Just Another Ad Platform
BUSINESS INSIDER – May 12 – At the beginning of May, Facebook announced it was launching a dating product. It drew a lot of attention from other leaders in the industry, including the CEO of Happn, Didier Rappaport, who said the announcement was just "trying to distract" from the recent data scandal. According to Ashley Madison's CTO Ruben Buell, if Facebook is sticking with its traditional methods of making money, it will be pushing an ad based model so users are essentially the product. This, Buell said, may conjure up some concerns from users. In general, people are getting more savvy about how much of their information on Facebook is publicly available to view. So Buell said this may be a challenge for Facebook going forward.

SeekingArrangement Hosted “Sugar Baby Summit”
BUSINESS INSIDER – May 9 – SeekingArrangement, an online dating service for sugar babies and daddies, hosted a conference in New York City. One of the panels focused on money in sugar dating. According to the panelists, sugar dating isn't just about money – it's about developing a relationship and respecting each other's feelings. In fact, it's generally considered a faux pas to ask for money right off the bat. "The financial aspect of the relationship is something that can be brought up once a level of trust has been built. Anyone asking for money upfront is treating the situation as a job, and Sugar dating is not a job, it's a lifestyle choice," according to the website.

Berkeley International – The Billionaire Matchmaking

For highly tailored packages they can charge up to £100k. Berkeley International is headquartered in London's prestigious Berkeley Square in Mayfair, and operates in 13 locations across Europe – from Copenhagen to Cannes – as well as New York and Melbourne. The business is booming thanks to a combination of digital dating fatigue and global uncertainty – a trend she calls the "lipstick effect." "When times are tough people spend more on themselves and the same applies to dating and introductions," said Mairead Molloy, the global director of matchmaking at Berkeley International.

Andreev said that the restaurant's menu includes an onion soup that he created.
Waving – A New App With Voice Profiles
BUSINESS INSIDER – Mar 13 – Instead of showing profile pictures and text, Waving plays people's voice. After telling the app what a user is looking for in a potential date, it will show him/her the pictureless profiles of possible matches and lets him/her listen to the recordings they've made. Users can record themselves saying whatever they like and can title each recording as they wish, such as "Hello," "Hobbies," or "Things I Like." For now, Waving isn't policing what people say in their recordings or how they label them. Unfortunately, Waving abandons voice messages as soon as users match and then they start text messaging just like on most other dating apps.
