Dating Event Pairs NYC Men and Gold Diggers

Posted on August 18, 2011

Seekingarrangement logo NY POST – Aug 17 – At a party, sponsored by the sugar-daddy site SeekingArrangement.com, talking about money and gifts upon first introduction wasn’t taboo; it was expected. ~400 people registered for the mixer. It was a huge turnout, according to SeekingArrangement.com founder and CEO, Brandon Wade, who says that 100K of the current 800K members are based in the NYC area. Wade launched the site in 2006. The site’s seen 20% growth each year, and charges sugar daddies $50 a month to join (for sugar babies, it’s free). There are 10 sugar babies for every sugar daddy. Nearly half of the sugar daddies are married.

Honor Mom – Or Another ‘Daddy’ Will

Posted on May 5, 2011

Ashleymadison logo new apr 2010 NY POST – May 5 – This is a wakeup call to married men: This Sunday is Mother's Day. Do not scoff. The day following Mother's Day is the No. 2 date on which women seek love outside marriage. And No. 1? The day after Valentine's Day. For a decade, Ashley Madison, the online dating site that claims more than 9M members, has hooked up frustrated women with appreciative guys. On a normal Monday, 2,500 to 3,000 women join. But last post-Mother's Day, May 10, was a record. Some 31,427 women signed up. The average age is 36.

Mark Brooks: This is pretty much the social warning call for the rise of the infidelity sites. Look after your girl, or someone else will.

Discount Dating

Posted on March 28, 2011

NY POST – Mar 28 – Is using a coupon on a first date smart or tacky? Dan Nainan, a 29-year-old former computer engineer for Intel who now works as a comedian, has used discounts for dates with four different women in the last three months. “When people get into serious relationships, or get married, they use coupons,” he says of his rational approach. “So why not use them from day one?” So far, he says all the women he’s wined and dined (at 50% off) have been impressed with his savvy. “You’re not cheap when you bring a coupon on a date, you’re just beating the system,” asserts Casey, author of “The Man Plan” and a relationship expert for Match.com.

Mark Brooks: The Entertainment book is nice, but handing an Entertainment book coupon to the waitress at the beginning of a dinner sends the message 'I am cheap, and you're not worth it.'  Or, 'I'm going on so many dates I need to get a break.' Or 'I'm on the breadline and can only afford to pay for one.'  Singles are better off using iDine.  The 20% discount on the whole dinner bill appears on the credit card, automatically.  No coupons to hand out, and no loss of face when the waitress comes back and says, 'I'm sorry, we're under new management and no longer accepting these coupons.'

Women From New York Pay For The Date

Posted on February 25, 2011

Woman paying for dinner NY POST – Feb 25 – A recent study of US Census data found that the income of single women in their 20s living in New York City is now 17% higher, on average, than that of their male counterparts. This income shift in the midst of an anemic economy is also shaking up dating rules in the city. So instead of the perfunctory “purse reach” at the end of a romantic meal, young women are now pulling out the plastic. Biological anthropologist Helen Fisher says it’s not surprising that New York women are less concerned about a fellow’s puny finances than they may have been in past years. “Money seems to be pretty far down on the totem pole” of relationship criteria, she says, citing the Single in America study of 5,200 US singles she just completed in partnership with Match.com. According to her findings, only 4% of men and 17% of women would “definitely not date” someone who was unemployed.

Mark Brooks: Etiquette says that if a woman wants to pay on a first date, she's not really interested in the guy. So, women beware. Guys can get mixed signals here. On first dates, if you want to pay, make sure to let the guy know you're interested in them, but also believe in paying for the first date. Then let the guy take you out on the next date. If he likes you, he will, if he has any money and cojones.

Online Dating Matches Don’t Come As Advertised

Posted on August 30, 2010

Online dating facts picture NY POST – Aug 29 - People are way harsher online than they are in real life. The sexes have one thing in common — they both lie. 24% of men and 13% of women lie about their age. Men are on average 2 inches shorter than they say in their profiles, while women are an inch shorter. About 50% of daters fib about their weight. Almost everyone exaggerates their income by 20%, according to trends tracked by OKCupid.

Daters Without Borders

Posted on November 30, 2009

International dating NY POST – Nov 29 - More and more New Yorkers are searching for love on European dating sites. Lillian, a 42-year-old Manhattan copy editor signed up for Meetic.com. She Skypes with a Parisian man from the site for an hour each day. Susan, a 22-year-old grad student, also struggled with dating locally, so she widened her eHarmony parameters. Even “Real Housewives of New York City” reality star Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen met through Matchmaker.com while living on different continents. Mark Brooks, editor of OnlinePersonalsWatch.com, says international romance is a growing trend, due to singles’ increasing pickiness about potential life partners. “The longer the shopping list, the further afield you should cast your net,” he advises. A single New Yorker four years ago, he flew to Prague for a European online dating conference where he met and fell for a Czech woman. They married last April and now live in Malta with two daughters.

Here are some of the most popular dating sites from around the world:
Europeans: Meetic.com
Brits and Canadians: PlentyOfFish.com
Asians: AsiaFriendFinder.com
Australians: RSVP.com.au
Indians: Shaadi.com
Russians: Mamba.ru

Paying Nothing for Love

Posted on October 30, 2006

OkcupidlogoNY POST — Oct 26 — OkCupid is free, unlike market leaders Match.com and eHarmony. This is a fairly unprecedented concept in the half-billion-dollar online dating industry, which is the third most lucrative Internet business after, of course, porn and gambling. "Online dating is just about the last bastion of paid content on the Web," Yagan said. "What we're trying to do is take down the $500 million online dating industry." OkCupid makes money from display advertising funneled through Google's AdSense program.

Check Mate

Posted on September 27, 2006

Fingers20crossed202NY POST  — Sep 27 — “The guys that women meet on dating sites, at least 50 percent of the time they are lying,” says New York private investigator Skipp Porteous. Sherlock Investigations offers a comprehensive check for $500. Intelius just started a major scare-tactic ad campaign which includes one TV commercial where a woman is blissfully unaware she is about to go on a date with a violent sex offender. If only she knew, the ad seems to say, she could buy a $50 criminal background check online. Dating guru Liz H. Kelly, author of Smart Man Hunting, advises using a secondary e-mail address, never giving out more than a cellphone number and always meeting in a public place. When Truedater users were polled recently, the #1 gripe cited about online daters was with lying about physical appearance, #2 was marital status and #3 was age.
