Dating in 2026: Singles Prioritise Commitment, Clarity, and Long-Term Potential

PARSHIP – According to a study conducted by Parship in cooperation with the market research institute INNOFACT AG, dating in 2026 is becoming more committed: 7 out of 10 singles (70%) only want to date people with whom there is a realistic chance of a long-term relationship. The study, based on a survey of 1K singles in Germany, also shows that 65% of singles feel ready to start a new chapter in their love lives. Early clarity plays a central role, with 79% wanting to quickly determine whether core values and future plans align and 76% wanting to clearly communicate their relationship expectations from the beginning. Previous dating experience strongly influences current behaviour, as 61% of singles say they have learned from past experiences and 51% plan to date or approach relationships differently than before.

Parship Study: Why Singles Want Relationships in 2026

PARSHIP – Singles increasingly seek relationships as a safe emotional space, especially women (70%). Shared hobbies rank second. Men prioritize sexual fulfillment and reducing loneliness, while women focus more on emotional security, everyday support, and future planning (travel, home, career changes). Singles in their 40s and 50s show an above-average desire to re-ignite their sexual lives, while those aged 60 to 69 are particularly likely to seek companionship, shared interests, and a new beginning in later life (27%). Overall, the data shows that while men are more driven by loneliness relief and sexuality, women are more focused on emotional safety, everyday reliability, and the future.

PARSHIP – Parship’s 2026 Dating Compass highlights a shift toward more intentional dating, with “Re:loving” emerging as the key trend as singles focus on clear goals and long-term potential. The study of ~3K people shows that singles, especially women, prioritise transparency, stability and security for 2026. For daters over 40, clarity and fewer compromises become more important. The report also finds that while singles are open to AI for inspiration, they reject AI-generated messages; Parship introduces an AI “Harmony Check” to help users gauge compatibility and start conversations.

German Court Limits Parship Cancellations

Posted on July 22, 2025

Parship logo
THE MUNINCH EYE – Germany's Federal Court ruled that Parship's automatic six-month contract extensions are invalid if users weren't given fair notice, such as the 12-week cancellation period previously required. However, the court rejected a general right for users to cancel dating platform contracts at any time, stating that services like Parship don't involve the personal trust found in traditional matchmaking. Users affected by invalid extensions can request refunds – those in a collective action from 2018, others from 2022- but only for the extended period, not the original contract. Longer contracts (12 or 24 months) signed before February 2022 remain valid under the old legal framework, while contracts after March 2022 are governed by updated laws allowing monthly cancellations post-initial term.

Posted on April 23, 2025

Parship logoPRESS RELEASE – A Parship study of over 1,000 Germans reveals that sustainability is a growing source of tension in relationships. While 82% of couples agree on basic eco-habits, 37% say they'd end a relationship if their partner pushed too hard for a sustainable lifestyle, rising to 46% among Gen Z. One in five couples have already argued about sustainability, and 30% wish their partner were more environmentally conscious. Younger people, especially 18–29-year-olds, are the most affected, showing both the highest expectations and the highest conflict rates around green living.

Parship Study: Loneliness Affects Both Singles and Couples, Regardless of Relationship Status

Posted on October 4, 2024

Parship logo 2019PARSHIP – The Parship Loneliness Index reveals that 23% of singles feel somewhat or extremely lonely, compared to just 12% of people in relationships. Additionally, 30% of partnered individuals report feeling lonely at times, even when their partner is present. Experts stress that loneliness is not just about relationship status but also the quality of social connections. For those who are extremely lonely, 64% of singles believe a relationship would reduce their loneliness. Eric Hegmann, a relationship therapist, advises couples to maintain strong social networks to avoid loneliness within relationships, while Stella Schultner encourages singles to build fulfilling lives through friendships and self-love rather than relying solely on a relationship for happiness.
