Seeking’s Approach to Stopping Fake Profiles

Posted on November 27, 2025
Seeking logo

TECHROUND – Hoony Youn, CTO at Seeking, says dating apps attract fraud because users arrive open and emotionally receptive, and it’s historically been easy for criminals to hide behind fake identities. Seeking introduced Selfie Liveness Verification with AWS Rekognition, a biometric check that detects whether someone is a real person rather than a deepfake, spoof or stolen photo. The system checks for details like texture and blood flow and flags mismatches with previously banned accounts. This year, ~50K fake profiles were stopped, many using AI-generated images. Youn notes that verification hasn’t slowed sign-ups, and that strong safety measures are becoming essential across the industry as romance fraud and AI-driven scams increase.

LEXOLOGY – SeekingArrangement, a US dating platform, and its Singapore affiliate won a $4M trademark case against Malaysia’s SugarBook in a US court. Since SugarBook is based in Malaysia, the plaintiffs asked the Malaysian High Court to enforce the US ruling. The court agreed, finding that SugarBook’s sites were clearly doing business in the US by targeting American users, taking payments in dollars, hosting servers there, and featuring US content. The decision shows that online companies can be treated as present abroad and face foreign judgments even without a physical office.

UK Regulators Ban Seeking.com Ad for Promoting Sexist Gender Stereotypes

Posted on October 17, 2024

Seeking logo 2022 for social mediaUKTN – A dating ad by Seeking.com has been banned by UK regulators for promoting "sexist and negative gender stereotypes." The ad, posted on Reddit, featured an older man discarding a woman's photo in favor of four young women in bikinis, accompanied by the text "Be the catch" and claims of a 4:1 women-to-men ratio. Complaints were filed with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which ruled the ad perpetuated harmful stereotypes, suggesting women's value lies in their youth and attractiveness. Seeking.com defended the ad as humorous but agreed to remove it and comply with the ASA's guidelines against sexist content.

Posted on July 24, 2023

Seeking logoFORBES – Seeking.com, a luxury dating service, conducted a study that offered insights into the dating habits of the ultra-wealthy. According to their research, wealthy individuals prioritize health in their potential partners, particularly those who follow a healthy lifestyle and avoid habits like smoking. They also value discretion highly and seek deep, meaningful emotional connections. Importantly, physical attractiveness is less of a priority than a potential partner's education level, with a preference for those holding a college degree or higher.
