Sex Still Sells

Posted on August 3, 2007

Adultfriendfinder_logoAMERICAN CHRONICLE — Aug 2 — Adult FriendFinder, one of the largest adult websites with over 22.3 million members, has just one million fewer members than the population of Texas. Every day, Adult FriendFinder gets more visitors than Match and eHarmony combined. The five states with the largest number of subscribers (California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois) all have at least 3.3% of their population active with the website. Adult content remains hot with 4% of all web traffic, 2% of all surfing time, and 20% of all cellphone searches looking for it. 22% ($2.8 billion) of the $13 billion spent on adult entertainment comes from the Internet alone. I Left My Heart In San Francisco

Posted on August 3, 2007

Golden_gate_sfSF CHRONICLE — Aug 2 — The dating scene in San Francisco is as complex and romantic as the atmosphere. City dwellers don’t rely on the typical bar scene. San Franciscans instead sip cocktails beside the turtle tank at the California Academy of Sciences, speed date (complete with dating game show) at Crush Lab, and entertain daytime dates at Farmer’s Market Saturdays. Trendy upscale bars and restaurants, of course, abound and localized social networking sites, not mainstream dating ones, reign supreme. FULL ARTICLE @ SF GATE.COM

Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned

Posted on August 3, 2007

Internet_love_scams_logoSEATTLE PI — Aug 2 — There are sites out there, like lookstoogoodtobetrue.com and internet-love-scams.org, that offer tips on how to avoid being scammed by false dating profilers looking to steal your money. Another site, dontdatehimgirl.com, warns against those who may be looking to steal your heart. Anonymous users post the names (and sometimes aliases) of men (predominantly) and women who have lied, cheated, and everything in-between. FULL ARTICLE @ SEATTLE PI

Posted on August 3, 2007

Among those who benefited from the small applications: HOTorNOT‘s number of unique daily visitors doubled, RockYou‘s visitor count grew 228%, and Slide‘s site traffic increased 265%. Widgets also simplify things for marketers by giving them a clearer picture of how, when, and why their content is being used. FULL ARTICLE @ BIZ REPORT

Dating Options In Tucson

Posted on August 3, 2007

Tucson_fun_logoARIZONA DAILY STAR — Aug 02 — In a sprawling, college town like Tucson, it can be hard for more mature singles to find true love. Luckily, services like online dating, speed dating, and It's Just Lunch exist. One of the more unique options, Tucson Fun & Adventures, isn't even a dating service. Founded in 1997, the group is definitely more of an activities club, but singles looking for a little rock climbing or wine tasting adventure might find something more. FULL ARTICLE @ AZ NIGHT BUZZ

The Many Faces Of Online Dating

Posted on August 3, 2007

ComscoreTECHNEWSWORLD — August 2 — The U.S. online dating market will reach $932 million in 2011, according to JupiterResearch. More than 20 million Internet users visited such a site last December, reported comScore, with the top destinations being Yahoo! Personals, Match.com, True.com, Spark Networks and Singlesnet.com. But, mainstream dating site memberships are stagnating or, in some cases, shrinking. The proportion of paying customers (5%) has stayed the same over the last five years, according to Jupiter. Furthermore, only 10% of Internet users visited an online dating site in 2006 — a decrease from 16% in 2005 and 21% in 2002. Specialized dating sites, as a result, are increasing in numbers. It is speculated, though, they they too must keep evolving to prevent stagnation. FULL ARTICLE @ TECH NEWS WORLD

Match Earnings Show Major Decline In U.S. Subscribers

Posted on August 3, 2007

MatchlogoTHE PARADIGM SHIFT — Aug 2 — Match released earnings a few days ago which stated that revenue growth was driven by a 1% increase in worldwide subscribers. How Important is Physical Attraction?

Posted on August 2, 2007

Physical SAΪD AMIN — July 31 — On dating sites, many men base their decision to email a person solely on a picture. eHarmony's system de-emphasizes looks by preventing members from manually searching for photos. Instead, matches are delivered based on other criteria, like lifestyle, morals, and outlooks. eHarmony, with its deep Christian roots, has very strong brand loyalty within the Christian community. Could it be then that physical attraction is not as important for devout Christians?

TickMe Eliminating Fear Of Rejection

Posted on August 2, 2007

Tick_me_logoPRESS RELEASE — Aug 1 — TickMe has implemented an anonymous tick rating system. Members now can show levels of "affection" on a scale of 1-3 without any risk of embarrassment or rejection because the other member only sees the tick if they have a mutual one. The new feature, one of several recently released on the site, was based on users' feedback.

The full article was originally published at eMedia Wire, but is no longer available.

Mark Brooks: A spin on HotorNot's double matching. On HotorNot, if one person says they are interested in another and that other person also indicates interest, a double match occurs and is indicated to both parties. HotorNot currently has one of the top apps on Facebook btw. Will more dating sites follow suit and offer up Facebook apps?
