NY TIMES – Oct 15 – No one was more eager to advertise on the new ABC comedy “Cougar Town” than CougarLife.com. But ABC rejected the commercial. The site is urging visitors to sign an online petition to get the network to change its mind. The commercial has appeared during the broadcast on about 15 stations in cities like Miami, Denver and Pittsburgh. But Noel Biderman, president of Avid Life Media in Toronto, which owns six dating sites including CougarLife.com, said those were “not major metropolitan centers, which is not how you build dating sites. You really need to be in L.A. and New York and Chicago.” Cougar Town drew 11.4M viewers to its premiere on Sept. 23, and 9M and 7.8M for its second and third episodes, respectively, according to Nielsen. Who would really want to sign this petition? Younger men and older women? It doesn’t really seem that big of a deal except for the publicity ploy. I’m sure older, maybe wealthier women would pay for this site but I’m sure they’ll have just as much success on the mainstream dating sites, especially now that younger guys seems more accepting of dating older women. But younger guys might not have much money to pay for a site like this.

Well good for them to have grown to a size that competes at that level. Minus points though if Dope is right, if it is mature dating then show mature daters like http://www.maturedatinghelp.com

There’s a preponderance of older woman (40+) and younger guys (under 25) on dating sites. The male female ratios are out of whack for both those groups. It makes sense to hook these two demographics up. And both groups are in their sexual prime.
