Interview With Markus Frind, Founder Of POF.com

Posted on November 12, 2012

Pof markus frind nov 12EXAMINER – Oct 11 - Markus Frind, Founder of POF.com, shared his insight on how people who log on to POF can take an effective approach to find their soulmate.

Q: How does POF.com select the match and who will respond profiles for a user?
A: POF matches users based on what they say they want in a partner – but also factors in certain user activity on the site.

Q: Is the digital cupid aspect of POF.com similar to what the odds are in a bar or other social event?
A: While it’s not difficult to meet new people at a bar, it is difficult to meet the right person. We allow for an experience that promotes interaction on a deeper level. Sometimes you don’t even know if the guy you’re eyeing is single.

Q: How does POF.com reflect your vision for what you wanted the site to be?
A: POF was created to fill a vacancy in the online dating industry as a free site. POF continues adapting as a business to facilitate the evolving world of dating. Our mobile apps for Android and iPhone are growing at a rate of several percent each week, and 70% of POF users last accessed the site via mobile device.

Q: How is it that a perfect match can be found online sometimes instead of offline?
A: Online dating exposes you to people that you otherwise would never meet offline.

Grindr Receives Mixed Reviews

Posted on November 12, 2012

Grindr logoEAST TENNESSEAN – Nov 12 – According to Grindr, since the inception of the app in early 2009, ~1-2K new users have signed up every day. 30% of the app’s users check the app daily, and 44% check their accounts on a weekly basis. The app has caught some flack because some users use it to find short-term relationships or to meet for casual sex. “As a dating tool, its hit or miss,” said one of Grindr's users. “Rarely will you find someone who is looking for Mr. Right rather than Mr. Right Now.” The app announced that it reached 3M users in 192 countries in November 2011. This made Grindr the largest all-male, location-based social network in the world.

Erli Bird: A Startup Connecting Other Startups With Early Adopters

Posted on November 12, 2012

Erlibird logoREAD WRITE – Nov 11 – If you want to succeed today, you need to put your product out on the market, collect user feedback and keep tweaking it to make sure you've got a winner. To do that, you need to attract early adopters, people who will sample your product or service and tell you what they think. The problem is finding them. Erli Bird is working to solve that problem. Erli Bird is a website where beta users can discover new startups, try their products and give feedback. Erli Bird has a freemium option that connects your startup with around 100 beta users for free. You can connect with more for a fee. Erli Bird launched in June and now has 70 startups participating. They include Glyder, an iPhone app for small businesses built by a Zynga designer and an OpenTable cofounder, and Capriza, which lets users make their own mobile apps in less than three minutes.

OKCupid Has Launched Social Discovery Service Tallygram

Posted on November 9, 2012

TallygramOPW – Nov 9 - OKCupid has been working on a new social discovery product Tallygram. After you sign up using Facebook Connect you are presented with countless questions such as "Should marijuana be legal?" or "Would you consider donating your body to science after you die?". The more questions you answer, the smarter Tallygram gets at suggesting you friends, just like OKCupid does with recommending you matches. Based on your answers Tallygram shows you on a percentage scale who might be your friend and who might be your enemy. As of now Tallygram only allows you to do a basic search, message people and invite your friends. The site is in Alpha and OKCupid is seeking developers to build new features.
