The Formula For Lasting Love

Posted on March 12, 2014

Love-equationTELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 12 – A study of 2K men and women, commissioned by MSN, claims to have found the mathematical formula for long-lasting relationships. 25% of both men and women believe their partner should have had four sexual partners before them. Men prioritise looks over intelligence and are twice as likely as women to believe that good sex is important for a happy, enduring relationship. The resulting formula can determine how long a potential or current relationship can be expected to last.

L = 8 + .5Y – .2P + .9Hm + .3Mf + J – .3G – .5(Sm – Sf)2 + I + 1.5C

  • L: The predicted length in years of the relationship
  • Y: The number of years the two people knew each other before the relationship became serious
  • P: The number of previous partners of both people added together
  • Hm: The importance the male partner attaches to honesty in the relationship
  • Mf : The importance the female attaches to money in the relationship
  • J: Humour importance (added together)
  • G: Good Looks Importance (added together)
  • Sm and Sf: Sex Importance
  • I: Having good in-laws importance (added together)
  • C: Children in the relationship importance (added together)
  • All 'importance' measures can be scaled from 1 to 5 where 1 is not important at all and 5 is very important.

Bravo’s ‘Online Dating Rituals’ Reveals Men Are Creepy

Posted on March 12, 2014

OnlinedatingritualsTHE DAILY BEAST – May 11 – Bravo claims to unmask the Online Dating Rituals of the American Male. Unfortunately, in the age of Tinder and OkCupid, it’s ten years too late. The premiere attempts to juxtapose the good and the bad of heterosexual male online daters. Based on the pilot episode, the behavior is not as eye-opening as it is eye-roll inducing. There is a way to examine modern dating habits that could both entertain and enlighten. Unfortunately, Bravo relies on old tropes of “good” and “bad” guys and contrived awkward sexual interactions.

HatchLabs’ Co-Founder Is Creating His Third Dating App

Posted on March 10, 2014

Tryst screenshotBUSINESS INSIDER – Mar 10 – Sway CEO Adam Huie is currently working on his third dating app. All of Huie's apps – Let's Meet, Sway, and his new one, Tryst – use a similar anonymous matching interface in which couples can only find out more about each other if they both agree to do so. Sway just partnered with Bravo TV and its new show "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male." Sway specifically created this new app for the show. Previously, Huie co-founded Hatch Labs, the mobile incubator that launched Tinder. In June, Huie became CEO of dating startup Let's Date. He left Let's Date for Sway, which is essentially Let's Date with a different name and a slightly tweaked user interface.

Posted on March 10, 2014

Hint screenshotBOSTINNO – Mar 10 – Hint is a new online dating app that is currently in Beta mode. Here's how it works: When users go out, wherever they are, they can check into the app, like FourSquare, and then upload a photo of themselves with a description of what they're wearing. If they spot somebody they like, they can look for them on the app and send them one of the pre-written messages that will vary depending where they are.

Posted on March 10, 2014

Sparknetworks greg_libermanFORBES – Mar 10 – At a panel at SXSW in Austin, Greg Liberman, the CEO of Spark Networks, spoke about the history of online dating. Mobile has completely taken over dating. Singles, especially those in their twenties, love texting to get to know people. 50% of those aged 21-to 26 report texting a few times a day before going on a date. 68% of singles still think it's important to talk on the phone before a face-to-face date. Dating is now a 24 hour a day activity. 44% check their phone first thing in the morning. A quarter of all singles aged 21 to 26 actually sleep with their phone in bed with them.

Tinder Campaign Accused Of ‘Slut-Shaming’

Posted on March 10, 2014

HUFFINGTON POST – Mar 8 – Tinder‘s newly released safe-sex campaign has been slammed over a “slut-shaming” advert. The advert, created by the AIDS Task Force, suggests to male users that they may catch an STD from hooking up with female Tinder users. A representative for Tinder said it was ‘not involved with this AIDS project in any way’. It seems that the app is being used as a platform for the AIDS Task Force message.
