Dating App Paktor Raises $500K
TECH IN ASIA – Paktor, a Singapore-founded dating app, has raised a $500K that values it at $6.5M. Paktor works just like Tinder. Besides Paktor and Noonswoon in Southeast Asia, there’s also Love Out Loud, Skout, Kehmistry and Setipe. Further North, there’s Hey from South Korea and Momo from China. Paktor raised $1.3M last year.

Man Sues OkCupid After Date Takes Him For $70K
NY POST – Mar 18 – A man from Queens slapped OkCupid with a lawsuit after a man he met on the singles site swindled him out of ~$70K. He blames OkCupid for failing to conduct “even minimal screening of its subscribers and therefore deceptively creating the impression that their dating service was safe."
On “Jess, Meet Ken”, Women Are The Matchmakers
EXAMINER – Mar 18 - Jess, Meet Ken is a new dating site. Jess and Ken Deckinger are a real married couple. The idea for creating the site came from their own experience of finding each other. Years ago, a female friend created a profile for Ken on a site, where a woman could recommend a guy who she liked but wasn't interested in dating. Soon, Jess emailed her to find out more about Ken. On Jess, Meet Ken, the set-up is simple. Women sign in with Facebook. If they want to recommend a guy, they answer 10 questions about him. Men need a female friend to recommend and post them on the site.

84% Of Brits Don’t Believe In Online Dating
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 17 – A new survey by Macmillan Cancer has revealed that whilst nine out of ten Brits think online dating has become more acceptable, 84% don’t believe it’s the best way to meet a long term partner. Only 14% of singletons trust someone's online dating profile. 15% worried date might be 'weird' in person or not look like picture (8%). 69% would be happy for a friend to suggest dates through Facebook.
“Secret RSVP” Focuses On Offline Events
BEACON NEWS – Mar 14 – Secret RSVP is a new singles meet-up service that lets members secretly invite people they are interested in meeting to group events. Secret RSVP currently has members in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. There is no charge to join the site but events range from $20 to $30 per person.

Tinder’s Trying To Empower Women
TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 15 – Tinder, the dating app that often comes across as a sex app, is trying to change its image to show it supports female empowerment. The app has teamed up with Amnesty International. The new Tinder ad shows images of a man being swiped to the left, and then has the message: “Not all women have the choices you do. You pick your partner. Many women aren’t given a choice.” The positive ad is a step in the right direction, but Tinder is still a long way from empowering women.
Zoosk And Tinder Are In, Match And ‘Internet Dating’ Are Out
