Whitney Wolfe Explains Bumble App Concept

Posted on October 13, 2015

Bumble logoBBC NEWS – Oct 12 – Whitney Wolfe, a co-founder of dating app Tinder, says she wants her new company to disrupt the sector, and cut back on the amount of online harassment directed towards women. She says the restrictions in the app which block men from driving the conversations are pushing social change. The word feminism has been co-opted and contorted, she says, but "what it really means is equality between men and women". When women make the first move, she says, men are often flattered and behave much more politely. Bumble isn't the only female-friendly app. Siren, a dating platform made by women, allows women to control their visibility, so they can block their profile from other users.

Muslim Tinder: Swipe Right For ‘Halal’ Love

Posted on October 13, 2015

Muslim dating appsINDIA.COM – Oct 13 – Minder, the Muslim twin of Tinder, launched this February – along with Salaam Swipe and Crescent – and competing with the already established MuzMatch. All four dating apps are very similar to Tinder, where users can see a few photos, a brief profile, and can swipe right if they are interested. If the other party also likes what they see, a chat feature will be enabled. On a given scale, users can choose how religious they are – moderate, conservative, or not religious – as well as if they wear a hijab or keep a beard.

Facebook Suggests Users Friend Dating Site Matches

Posted on October 12, 2015

Facebook suggested contactsMOTHERBOARD – Oct 12 -The issue has been coming up with alarming frequency for users of Tinder and OkCupid in recent months. Emilio Ferrara, a data science and machine learning professor at Indiana University who studies social networks said the most obvious answer would be that these apps are collecting and sharing your information. Tinder and OkCupid both denied they share user info. Brian Hamachek, a software engineer who has reversed engineered Tinder's API and is very familiar with Facebook's API said there is no reason to believe those two sites are comparing your data. He believes the Tinder and Facebook overlap is most likely a side effect of similar algorithms working to connect people.

Tinder CEO Sean Rad: From Boss, Booted, And Back

Posted on October 10, 2015

Tinder sean rad3FORBES – Oct 9 – Following his demotion by IAC, Rad continued to focus on Tinder's success, by supporting the new CEO, saying,"I saw my role as making sure that person succeeds." Tinder is now up to 10 billion matches (last year the number was 3 billion) with Rad at the helm once again. "We're getting smarter at putting the right people in front of you. There is a higher chance you’ll like them and that's driving the number of matches users get and the quality of matches. We see more matches per user, and longer and deeper conversations. Higher quality connection are getting formed." He notes the success of the new Super Like feature, "users have sent over more than 20M Super Likes. Users are 3x more likely to get a match, and conversations are 70% longer when started from a Super Like."

NHS Uses Tinder To Stop Smoking

Posted on October 10, 2015

Tinder nhs campaignMIRROR – Oct 9 – A woman searching for love on Tinder discovered she had fallen victim to a clever stop-smoking campaign by Joe Daniels – director of marketing firm Croak!. After visiting the profile of 'Joe' – a seemingly-charming chap with a killer smile, designer stubble and dreamy eyes – she noticed he turned 'uglier and uglier' in each of his pictures. Accompanying the final picture of 'Joe' – now missing a tooth and looking rather worse for wear – read the words: "There's no smoking without fire" with a link to the NHS Smokefree website. Daniels noted that "A lot of young people don’t really pay attention to traditional marketing approaches."
