The League Report: Career Ambition Now Central to Modern Dating

Posted on September 3, 2025

The League’s Career Compatibility Report shows that career alignment is now central to how ambitious professionals approach dating. Surveyed members ranked lifestyle compatibility and physical attraction equally as top priorities, with over 60% saying career ambition is non-negotiable in a partner. Women gravitate toward stable, high-prestige fields like finance, medicine, and tech, while men show more interest in creative industries. Financial values also matter—budgeting ranked as the most attractive trait—though most prefer to discuss money later in relationships. The report highlights a gender gap in perceptions of ambitious women, with nearly half of women saying society still resists them.

Orra is a New AI-Driven Matchmaking App for Serious Relationships

LASSONDE – University of Utah MBC graduates D.J. Potter and David Aiderzada founded Orra in 2022 to counter swipe-based apps that they say fuel superficiality, addiction, and disconnection. Orra is an AI matchmaking platform built around relationship market value (values, compatibility, attraction) rather than looks alone. Its features include curated matches, Spark Score compatibility ratings, an AI dating companion, and delayed photo reveals. With a March 2025 launch, the founders aim to help users form long-term relationships quickly, measuring success by matches made rather than time spent on the app.

PSYCHOLOGY TODAY – A study by Jessika Witmer and Hannes Rosenbusch from Tilburg University together with Erdem Ozan Meral from the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories, published in Computers in Human Behavior Reports (2025), tested what matters most when people swipe on dating apps. The researchers showed 445 participants in Germany different profiles that varied by photo, height, job, bio, intelligence, and similarity. They found that profile photos had by far the biggest impact on swiping decisions, while other details like occupation or biography made only a small difference.

PRNEWSWIRE – DateMyAge’s new survey shows that people over 50 are thriving, not slowing down. Respondents say they feel more confident, attractive, and better equipped to make life choices than when they were younger. Many believe their best career move is still ahead, and most describe themselves as mentally younger—often by a decade or two. Sex lives are more fulfilling, age matters less in choosing a partner, and maturity is widely seen as attractive. The findings feed into DateMyAge’s upcoming LoveMyAge campaign, which spotlights life after 50 as vibrant, adventurous, and some of the best years yet.

WALL STREET JOURNAL – Bumble is developing a new AI-powered matchmaking app, separate from its core platform, with a beta release planned for fall. Built on attachment theory and informed by psychologists, the app will use relationship history and user conversations to create profiles, generate matches, and even help plan dates. The goal is to move beyond swiping and superficial traits toward deeper compatibility. At the same time, improvements are being made to the existing app by pushing users to complete stronger profiles. The initiative comes as the company faces falling market value, user fatigue with swiping, and broader industry struggles with growth and retention.
