Dating App Aisle Raises Undisclosed Pre-series A Funding
THE HINDU BUSINESS LINE – Feb 16 – Bengaluru-based dating app Aisle has raised an undisclosed amount in pre-Series A funding from Hurun India Founder and Managing Director Anas Rahman Junaid and seed funding firm Konglo Ventures' founder Vinod Jose. Aisle will use the proceeds to foray into Tier-II markets across the country and expand in other countries with non-residential Indian presence. Aisle connects people of Indian-origin from around the world, who are looking for serious relationships and competes with Tinder and Bumble among others. Aisle had raised a previous funding earlier on February 14, 2017.

FORBES INDIA – Dec 23 – The online dating industry in India is worth $323M, and the country is the third-largest revenue generator, after the US and China. Although foreign dating apps were the first to create a significant mark in India, homegrown apps are now witnessing a slow and steady rise. These include Aisle, Truly Madly or HiHi. They are positioning themselves as means to look for longer-term relationships. But they still lag far behind older match-making platforms. Beginning with Bharat Matrimony (matrimony.com) in 1997, online platforms to look for life partners is now estimated to be worth $260M, with some of the big players being Matrimony.com, Jeevansathi.com and Shaadi.com. According to Statista, the number of registrations on Matrimony.com were 40M as of FY20, up from 18M in FY14. From having ~10% market share in 2010s, they now have 50% market share.

Once a host has created a Room, any numbers of users can join and wait for their turn for an audio conversation. All conversations that take place within a Room are broadcasted and can be listened to by any Aisle user. Each conversation between a host and a guest lasts for 5 minutes – after that, the host can either choose to match or to pass. Both parties are also given the option to end the conversation at any time with the 'Pass' button. Rooms will be rolled out to the entire user base in Q1 2021.

ECONOMIC TIMES – May 7 – Startups like Floh, SirfCoffee, Aisle, MyScoot and FilterOff are offering virtual poetry and cookery sessions and speed dates online among other activities. These apps have seen a 20% increase in new users, mostly busy professionals. SirfCoffee has set up over 200 personalised virtual dates in the comfort of our members' homes,” said Naina Hiranandani, co-founder of SirfCoffee. "We now host weekly Zoom events on various relationship topics," says Siddharth Mangharam, founder and CEO of Floh. "We are looking at hosting only interactive activities online like brewing coffee without equipment. So, users with an interest in coffee will join the session," says Suyash Sinha, founder of MyScoot. Bengaluru-based Aisle, on the other hand, is hosting online group activities through Zoom. These activities include games like Pictionary. After the activity, users connect with other members. US-headquartered FilterOff permits users to have a 90-second video chat session with the selected dating partners, before proceeding with the virtual date.
