OkCupid’s Dating Data Center: Juneteenth
OKCUPID BLOG – July 2 – Thousands of daters on OkCupid in the U.S. recently said it's important to them that their date celebrates Juneteenth, with support highest among Gen Z and Millennial women. Users who answered yes are getting 20% more matches and 50% more likes on average. 43% of OkCupid respondents said they celebrated Juneteenth by educating themselves on Black culture and history while 23% said they attended a related event, 20% supported Black-owned businesses and 14% listened to Black artists and watched Black movies.
Singles Return to In-Person Dating
WALL STREET JOURNAL – June 23 – People emerging from romantic hibernation are discovering their flirting skills are out of practice. Bumble says that 90% of its users report they are ready to date in real life again. From April to May, conversations on OkCupid increased 17.5%, while matches rose ~15%, the company says. On Tinder, "swipe activity" rose 15% this February YOY. Bumble says 41% of those ready to date in person again still prefer it to be socially distanced.

This feature has been rolled out as a result of OkCupid recently undertaking a study, which revealed that there has been a monumental increase in conversations around vaccines on users' profiles between March and June this year.
Match Group Partners With the UK Government to Promote COVID-19 Vaccinations
PR NEWSWIRE – June 7 – Match Group is working with the UK government to promote COVID-19 vaccinations across its brands including Tinder, Match, OurTime, OkCupid, Hinge, and Plenty of Fish. The apps will run ads for the UK government's Hope Campaign, share vaccine resources, and offer vaccination badges for singles to display on their profiles, as well as free "Super Likes" and other boost-type features for UK users who say they are vaccinated. Members will start seeing the banners and incentives starting this week, and the campaign will run throughout the month of June.

OKCUPID DATA CENTER – June 2 – According to latest OKCupid survey, 7 in 10 daters said they will get the COVID-19 vaccine (~1M respondents), and those who are planning to get it are getting 15% more Likes and 14% more Matches, and are having 4.5% more conversations. Millennials and Gen Z are more likely than Gen X to cancel a date with someone who didn't want to get the vaccine. People who are vaccinated on OkCupid are more likely to: Be concerned about climate change; Be more into love over sex right now; Believe they are smarter than most people; Enjoy discussing politics.
Dating Apps Adding Vax Badges and Filters
ABC7 NEWS – May 24 – In-person dating came mostly to a halt during the pandemic. Now that things are opening up, many people are still taking things slow. OkCupid says there was a 680% jump in the use of the term "vaccinated" in user profiles in April compared to February. Four in 10 daters say they'd cancel a date with someone who didn't want to get the COVID vaccine. In a partnership with the White House to encourage vaccines, dating apps including Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish announced they will create virtual vaccination status badges. Some apps will also let users filter out potential matches based on vaccination status. Hinge says more than half its users say they plan on going on more in-person dates after getting their shots.
