Dating Apps Revolutionize Romance in India

India dating picNIKKEI ASIA – May 5 – Dozens of apps — other big names include Woo, TrulyMadly, OkCupid, Happn, Hinge, Tantan, QuackQuack and HiHi — are helping singles to pair up with partners of their choice. According to Statista.com, the online dating segment's turnover in India is expected to reach $783M by 2024 from $454M in 2021, making the country the second-largest national revenue generator for dating apps after the U.S. Currently, dating apps reach 2.2% of India's total population, with projections of 3.6% by 2024, according to industry surveys. Aisle achieved 3M downloads worldwide last year despite competition from Tinder and Bumble. QuackQuack, an Indian dating app launched in 2010, boasts 12M. TrulyMadly, another Indian app, claims 5M users. "Indian society is in a churn," says Delhi-based sociologist Bhavna Kapoor. "Rising education and financial independence among the youth, especially women, are making online dating more popular.

OkCupid’s Dating Data Center: Post-pandemic Dating Behaviors

Okcupid statsOKCUPID DATING DATA CENTER – May 3 – 4 in 10 singles are looking forward to traveling after the pandemic, more than hanging out with friends, going on dates, and visiting family. After a year stuck at home, 36% of people on OkCupid said they're ideal post-pandemic date is anything outdoors, followed by coffee and drinks, dinner or a movie, or hanging out at someone's home. 8 in 10 (84%) OkCupid daters are looking for a steady partner. People are 2x more likely to say the pandemic has made them want to settle down sooner, rather than later, than they thought.

How OkCupid’s New ‘Climate Change Badge’ Is Increasing Dating Prospects for Users

Okcupid climate badgeADAGE – Apr 15 – OkCupid has launched its first-ever global badge in honor of Earth Month. The new Climate Change Badge lets users add a "Climate Change Advocate" designation to their profiles by answering "Yes" to the question "Do you want a profile badge to show you care about climate change?" The badge only formally launched on April 8, but already, 9 out of 10 users have opted in. The company is donating $25K to EarthDay.org as part of the initiative. Users with the badge are getting 44% more likes and 72% more matches than non-badged users, according to OKCupid's latest data. They're also having 27% more conversations than non-badged users.

Nine in 10 daters on OkCupid say it is important to them that their match cares about the environment. For all of Earth Month, every person on OkCupid who responds 'Yes' to the OkCupid question 'Are you concerned about climate change & want a profile badge to show it’s important to you?' will get the Climate Change Advocate badge automatically added to their profile. For every person who adds the badge to their profile, OKCupid is donating $1 to EARTHDAY.ORG.

Corazon capitalSEEKING ALPHA – Mar 25 – A new SPAC put together by two OkCupid co-founders and a top former Tinder executive is set to begin trading after a $200M IPO, hitting the Nasdaq even as rival dating firm Bumble's stock continues to stumble. OkCupid co-founder and former Match Group CEO Sam Yagan serves as CEO of new SPAC Corazon Capital V838 Monoceros Corp., fellow OkCupid co-founder Christian Rudder will sit on Corazon's board, while Phil Schwarz, former CMO at Tinder, will serve as the SPAC's chief strategy officer.

OkCupid Study: 79% of Indian Women Seek Permission to Pursue Their Dreams

The majority has to seek 'permission' to live their lives, and considering that pursuing education and having a career is a privilege for many Indian women, it is disappointing that 79% of women need their partners' permission to prioritise their career, the data found.
