Micro-dating: Trend for Short and Sweet Meet-ups

Posted on October 21, 2019

MicrodatingDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Oct 21 – Micro-dating is a trend that has become particularly popular with over-40s whose busy lives and multiple commitments leave conventional dating a near impossibility. Meet-ups are limited to 15 to 45 minutes only, and certainly never go over an hour. An ideal micro-date is going out for a coffee or a quick glass of wine after work. While it's a great concept for busy people, is micro-dating really the way to find a partner? Charly Lester, co-founder of Lumen, the dating app for over-50s, thinks not. "Over-50s who haven't dated for a while are often extremely nervous. It can take 30 minutes just to relax. So you don't get the full measure of someone on such a short date. Also, coffee is a rubbish first date! You don't have any distractions, and the face-to-face nature can feel really formal and awkward."

Britons Spend 23 Hours a Week Surfing Websites

Posted on June 3, 2019

Internet usage uk graphicsDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – May 31 – The average Briton spends 22 hours and 45 minutes a week online, according to Ofcom study. ~18 of those hours are spent on mobiles. One in ten Britons still never uses the Internet at all. The average Briton looks at their phone every 12 minutes. Pickable Founder: “British Men Need to Be More Romantic”

Posted on May 23, 2019

Pickable clementine lalandeDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – May 22 – Clémentine Lalande, 36, is the French founder of dating app Pickable. She claims the British dating scene is missing 'sparkle and magic' of the French. Lalande's app, Pickable, is designed to encourage what it describes as 'slow dating', getting users off the app, away from text exchanges and onto a real-life dates. However she noted British men appear to lack creativity when it comes to planning face-to-face encounters. She launched Pickable in France and the UK in November last year and it now has 1M active users, including 200K in the UK. The key to Pickable is that it gives women a greater sense of control over their online dating by keeping their identity anonymous. They can sign up on the app anonymously, without photos and any other details. Men, meanwhile, create a traditional profile, with a name, photo and bio. Women are able to scroll through men's profiles on the app and, when they land on a user they like, send them a message.

Quirky Dating Apps Set to Rival Tinder and Bumble

Posted on March 15, 2019

Unveil iconDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 15 – Growlr, Smell Dating and Unveil are generating successful matches in unique ways – including asking users to talk to each other before seeing their photos and matching people based on celebrities they like.

  • Unveil – This app presents potential partners via a blurred photo screen and the only way to 'unlock' their image is to talk to them on the phone.
  • Badoo – A new Badoo's feature allows users to name a celebrity they'd ideally like to date and the app will find matches who look just like them.
  • Smell Dating – This company will send a shirt to its members that they have to wear for three days without deodorant, and then mail it back only to be sent shirt options from other people who did the same thing. The scent they like the most will then be revealed and contact details exchanged on the app.

Psychiatrist Warns ‘Gamification’ of Dating Apps Is Harmful

Posted on March 10, 2019

Jigtalk icon 2019DAILYMAIL – Mar 9 – The 'gamification' of dating apps is damaging singleton's chances of spotting the right match for them, a psychiatrist has warned. The practice has become so addictive that more than one in 10 users swipe for over 14 hours a week, a survey has revealed. Men were found to be more promiscuous with dating apps than women, with 40% using three or more apps at a time. One in ten men admitted to using more than five dating apps at the same time. A quarter of women revealed they hadn't been on a single date in the past six months. The survey was commissioned by Alex Durrant, CEO of JigTalk, a dating app that aims to put 'personality' rather than 'looks' at the forefront of online dating.
