Whitney Wolfe, The Queen Bee Of Digital Dating

Posted on March 6, 2017

Bumble whitney wolfe in the officeDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 5 – Dating app Bumble, which now boasts 12.5M users, is the brainchild of Whitney Wolfe, a 27-year-old entrepreneur. 'I'm a very confident person, but I felt as if I was always supposed to be more submissive when it came to dating,' says Whitney, former VP of marketing at Tinder. 'If I make the first move, I'm perceived as a crazy girl. That's not fair. With Bumble, we're serious about putting women in the driver's seat', she says. 'The men who use Bumble appreciate a confident woman, a woman who has a voice,' she continues. She believes this reversal of stereotypical gender roles itself encourages better behaviour. In a little over two years, Bumble reports that it has had ~5k engagements and weddings.

Users make a profile, posting a selfie photograph or video, then flick through all the other people on the site. They can then 'swipe right' if they like the look of someone, or left if they don't. Getting onto the site is easy for everyone regardless of their age. The founders say they are five millennial friends, who met at college: Emmanuel Khayat, Sacha Lazimi, Arthur Patora, Jeremie Aouate and Anthony Tuil. The makers insisted the site is moderated, children can report problems and 'a significant number of profiles are checked every day' — although they twice declined to say how many.
