The app allows users to list up to ten interests when they sign up, along with a 160 character bio. Users browse people that are nearby and can give a thumbs up, or 'nudge'. If a person they've 'nudged' gives them a nudge back, it is a match and they can start messaging. Both participants have the option to either partially or fully reveal their profile picture.

The move angered outsiders who disagreed with the site's selective policy. The 'Ugly' troll attack originated in Russia where ~2,700 applications were made to the site in a few hours. Over half of these were fake profiles and part of the ugly troll army.

Currently, the app automatically searches within a certain distance from a user’s location, whereas Tinder Plus users will be able to toggle between different locations.
