DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – May 5 – 1 Million babies have been born to couples who met via Match.com as the site announce a scholarship contest. Match.com is offering a $50K college scholarship to a 13- to 20-year-old whose parents or stepparents hooked up via the site. Children must submit short videos in the next two months describing their parents' love story. The general public will then choose the best of 10 finalists through Facebook and Twitter.
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 17 – A new survey by Macmillan Cancer has revealed that whilst nine out of ten Brits think online dating has become more acceptable, 84% don’t believe it’s the best way to meet a long term partner. Only 14% of singletons trust someone's online dating profile. 15% worried date might be 'weird' in person or not look like picture (8%). 69% would be happy for a friend to suggest dates through Facebook.
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Feb 24 - Secret Diamond Club is a dating site for beautiful women and wealthy men. It started in Demark in 2010 and has recently launched in the UK. The site was started by serial entrepreneur Gus Terkelsen, who has a rather controversial reason for his decision to launch in the UK, claiming rich British men can't find love as the women here are unattractive. It costs up to $100K a year for men to join, women pay less but have to meet the strict looks criteria of a panel of twenty ‘experts’ and submit three photographs, including a full body shot.

The recipient can then log on to the site, enter the card's ID number, view the person's profile and start chatting to them if they like what they see. Since launching his blog CheckTheirFridge.com in autumn John has been inundated with people sending pictures to him of a potential partner's food chiller. He said: "Nothing says more about who we are than what we eat and what we drink. It provides the ultimate insight into our health, appearance, income, lifestyle, even the kind of romantic partner we’ll be."
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Jan 23 – A research study released by eHarmony suggests that 50% of couples will meet online within 20 years. They predict that number will rise to 70% by 2040. The 55 to 64-year-old age group is expected to see a 30 per cent rise from 2013 to 2030 , increasing from 1.87 million to 2.41 million. Internet access among those 18 to 64 has doubled in the past decade to 88%. eHarmony is predicting the future of dating will contribute more than £256 million of consumer spending by 2030 – an increase of 81% compared to today.
