Testing AI Matchmakers: More Structure, Same Dating Fatigue

Posted on January 5, 2026
AI matchmaking

BUSINESS INSIDER – Two journalists tested four AI matchmaking services – Amata, Facebook Dating, Sitch, and Three Day Rule – to assess whether chatbot-led matching improved dating outcomes. After weeks of interacting with AI matchmakers, reviewing suggested profiles, and going on several dates, the conclusion was that AI added structure and convenience, such as slower matching, automated profiles, and date planning, but did not eliminate dating fatigue or materially improve results. Some dates occurred, mainly through Amata and Sitch, but overall the experience felt like a modified version of traditional dating apps rather than a fundamental change.

Facebook Dating – A Major Dating Platform Nobody Talks About

Posted on December 2, 2025

WIRED – Facebook Dating has quietly become a major dating platform with 21M users, including 1.77M daily active Americans aged 18–29, making it larger than Hinge and more popular among young people than expected. The service sits inside the Facebook app, is free to use, and now features a powerful AI dating assistant, plus upcoming tools like Vibe Check and Meet Cute to improve matching. Users describe it as efficient but sometimes inaccurate with distance, and Gen Z often uses it for clout or content promotion as much as for dating. Meta will launch Facebook Dating’s first marketing campaign in 2026.

NEW YORK TIMES – Facebook Dating has quietly become one of the biggest dating services, now topping 21M daily users by offering a free, easy alternative to paid apps. Its growth shows how Facebook is reinventing itself: younger users may ignore the main feed, but they return for Marketplace, Messenger, and Dating. The service benefits from real profiles, strong network effects, and Meta’s decision not to charge subscriptions, keeping all features open to everyone. Usage among under-30s is rising, older users remain active, and Meta is expanding the product with AI tools like an AI dating assistant, an AI matchmaker called Meet Cute, and even friend-as-matchmaker features. Despite some reports of scams, many users prefer Facebook Dating because it gives them more matches without paying.

TECH CRUNCH – Facebook Dating, launched in 2019, actually has a sizable user base. Meta reports 21.5M daily active users across 52 countries. The in-app feature, not a standalone product, is gaining traction among younger users, with 1.77M aged 18–29 in the U.S. Facebook has publicly addressed the fact that it struggles to keep Gen Z and young millennials on the platform, yet the company said last year that daily conversations on Facebook Dating in the 18-29 demographic spiked 24%. Facebook Dating remains free, relying on data monetization.

Facebook Dating

MUMBRELLA – Facebook Australia has revealed it doesn’t have any plans to launch Facebook Dating in Australia, despite ramping up the tools and offering in North America. Facebook Dating is a free platform within the existing Facebook app, which claims to make it easier to find love by meeting and starting conversations with people who share your interests. In Australia, Meta is tied up preparing for the social media minimum age requirements. From Dec 10, social media platforms, including Facebook, will be required by the Australian Government to remove users who are under 16.

STREET INSIDER – Facebook Dating is launching two features in the US and Canada: a chat assistant that recommends matches and gives profile tips, and “Meet Cute,” a weekly algorithm-picked surprise match. Meet Cute currently delivers one match per week, with higher frequency under consideration. Both features are opt-out and rolling out gradually. Facebook says hundreds of thousands of 18–29-year-olds create profiles monthly and matches in that group are up 10% YOY. The service remains free inside the Facebook app.

Gen Z and Millennials Shift to Facebook Dating Amid App Fatigue

Posted on December 4, 2024

Facebook dating logoNY POST – Young adults are increasingly turning to Facebook Dating as burnout with mainstream dating apps grows. Daily conversations among users aged 18-29 on Facebook Dating have risen by 24% over the past year, according to Axios. Over half of users, including 55% of women and 56% of men, return monthly. Women experience higher success rates, with 72% of their likes leading to matches compared to 11% for men. New Dating Apps Betting on Matchmaking

Posted on November 28, 2024

Cheers logoBUSINESS INSIDER – Several new "matchmaking" dating apps have launched in the past year, addressing dating-app fatigue. Sitch is an AI matchmaking app launched in New York in November. Cheers is an app that lets friends play matchmaker in a social-media feed, launched in October. Facebook Dating even launched a matchmaking feature last month. Tinder's cofounder and former CEO, Sean Rad, said on a September episode of the 20VC podcast that he had always imagined the dating app moving beyond swiping and into matchmaking. In 2017, Hinge launched a stand-alone app called Matchmaker that lets friends swipe for each other. It appears to have since shut down. Tinder, also owned by Match Group, launched a similar feature in 2023.

Loop is a matchmaking app where everyone can set up their single friends. Only a third of the user base are singles; the rest are friends and family members or even professional or hobbyist matchmakers. Loop launched in 2023 and is currently free for all users.

Arrange should launch in December and will let users link their profiles with a "scout," a trusted friend or family member, who can talk with potential matches ahead of time and vet for compatibility.

Amori is a dating-advice app with characters users can chat with, is experimenting with matchmaking using a personal assistant (though it isn't live within the app yet).

Facebook to Test Age Verification Tech on Facebook Dating

Posted on December 5, 2022

Facebook dating for social mediaTECH CRUNCH – Facebook Dating will now serve as the testing grounds for further experimentation with new age verification technologies, including video selfies and ID uploads. The company will expand its partnership with online age verification provider Yoti to verify the ages of Facebook Dating users when it suspects they've lied about their real age. When Facebook's AI detects someone who may be under the age of 18 trying to use Facebook dating, it will send them a prompt to verify their age.
