AI Dating Apps Replace Swiping With Interview-Based Matchmaking

Posted on February 16, 2026

THE GUARDIAN – AI-driven dating startups are replacing swiping with interviews and curated matches. The London app Fate uses an AI agent to question users about personality and goals, then presents about five compatible matches and can coach conversations. Similar services like Sitch and Keeper also use AI to analyse preferences and feedback to produce higher-intent matches. The pitch: fewer options, deeper compatibility. Surveys show interest in AI for safety, but most users remain skeptical about AI guiding conversations.

AI Dating Startups Shift From Subscriptions to Pay-for-Match

Posted on February 16, 2026

PITCHBOOK – Several startups are replacing swipe subscriptions with pay-for-results dating. Keeper’s AI charges a $5K fee per match and offers a $50K “marriage bounty,” meaning the client only pays the full amount if the relationship meets its long-term criteria (such as marriage or equivalent commitment). Known uses voice-analysis AI and charges when it sets up a date. Sitch sells arranged date packages (~$90 for three matches in New York). Ditto, focused on students, is free and positioned as a broader social-connection platform. The shift is from paying to browse profiles to paying for actual introductions or outcomes.

Testing AI Matchmakers: More Structure, Same Dating Fatigue

Posted on January 5, 2026
AI matchmaking

BUSINESS INSIDER – Two journalists tested four AI matchmaking services – Amata, Facebook Dating, Sitch, and Three Day Rule – to assess whether chatbot-led matching improved dating outcomes. After weeks of interacting with AI matchmakers, reviewing suggested profiles, and going on several dates, the conclusion was that AI added structure and convenience, such as slower matching, automated profiles, and date planning, but did not eliminate dating fatigue or materially improve results. Some dates occurred, mainly through Amata and Sitch, but overall the experience felt like a modified version of traditional dating apps rather than a fundamental change.

Dating Apps Turn to AI After User Growth and Revenue Declines

Posted on December 29, 2025

BUSINESS INSIDER – Dating apps including Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, and Grindr are investing tens of millions of dollars in AI-powered matchmaking to counter swipe fatigue, declining engagement, and falling paid-user numbers. Match Group’s stock is down ~75% over five years and its paying users fell 5% YOY, while Bumble’s share price is down ~50% this year, it laid off 30% of staff, and paying users dropped 18%. The companies are deploying generative AI for matchmaking, profile creation, flirting, and safety, with Tinder testing its Chemistry feature and Grindr launching AI-driven recommendation feeds. Analysts say AI alone cannot revive unpopular products. At the same time, AI-first startups are raising capital and entering the market, including Sitch, which has raised $9M and charges $90 for three matches, alongside new apps such as Known, Ditto, and Amata, while Facebook has introduced an AI dating assistant.

Posted on March 24, 2025

GDI conference logoBUSINESS INSIDER – At the Social Discovery and Dating Conference hosted by Global Dating Insights (GDI) in New York last week, AI was the central theme, with dating app founders and execs debating its role in the industry. Companies like Slide, Once, and Sitch discussed how large language models and AI agents could improve matching, safety, and user experience. Some startups, like the French app Gigi, are already experimenting with AI as a dating companion or assistant. While excitement around the potential is high, most speakers agreed that widespread user adoption of AI-driven features in dating apps is still a few years away.

Investors Bet on AI and Social Interaction to Shape the Future of Dating Apps

Posted on March 17, 2025

Sitch iconBUSINESS INDISTER – Venture capitalists are focusing on AI-driven dating startups as the next big opportunity in consumer tech. Investors are backing platforms that go beyond traditional swiping models, incorporating AI matchmaking and real-world social elements. French dating app Gigi uses an AI matchmaker, while Sitch applies AI to improve compatibility. Investors believe Gen Z is driving a shift toward dating apps that focus on community, real-world interactions, and shared interests rather than just appearance-based swiping. Some funds remain skeptical about the potential for billion-dollar exits in the dating space, but new models blending AI and social engagement continue to attract interest.
