Tinder Outlines Product Roadmap at First SPARKS Event

Posted on March 13, 2026
Tinder Sparks

OPW – Match Group hosted its first product-focused event, SPARKS 2026: Start Something New, on March 12, where executives outlined new features and the company’s product strategy for Tinder. The event’s name reflects what Tinder now considers its core success metric: “sparks.” According to the company, a spark occurs when two users exchange at least six back-and-forth messages, signaling genuine engagement. 18% of women who stopped using dating apps cited matches that never led to conversations as a key frustration. In response, Tinder has shifted its internal structure to become more product- and engineering-led, focusing on features that increase “Sparks”.

Opening the event, CEO Spencer Rascoff said Tinder remains one of the largest dating apps globally, with users making ~2B swipes per day. Despite claims that younger users are abandoning dating apps, he believes the demand for connection remains strong.

He highlighted Double Date, a feature launched in June that allows users to pair with a friend and match with another pair. The feature is designed to reduce the pressure of one-on-one dates. According to the company, 1 in 5 US women aged 18–22 are already part of a Double Date pair, while adoption in Norway has reached 50%.

Tinder is also expanding ways users connect through shared interests. Music Mode allows users to add up to 20 songs from Spotify to their profiles. Astrology Mode highlights zodiac compatibility. Both features are already available globally. Tinder is rolling out updates to the profile experience designed to add more context and personality: Photo prompts that add text to images, AI-powered Photo Enhance, Camera Roll Scan, which automatically creates visual collages from a user’s photo library.

IRL Events and Video Speed Dating
Tinder is introducing IRL events, starting with a pilot in Los Angeles, where users can browse and join curated local meetups through a new Events tab on the Tinder app. Another feature being tested is Video Speed Dating, which will allow users to have three-minute video conversations after completing photo verification. Video Speed Dating will launch in LA in June.

Trust and Safety
Yoel Roth (SVP, Trust & Safety) said Tinder introduced 20 safety features over the past years and invested $125M in trust and safety. New tools include: Face Check, Share My Date, Are You Sure?, Does This Bother You?, Photo and ID verification. According to Tinder, Face Check has reduced views of bots and bad actors by 60% and cut related reports by 40%.

Executives said the recent product updates represent a shift away from purely swipe-based interactions toward features designed to increase engagement, lower pressure, and generate more “sparks” between users.

More Women Are Dating AI Boyfriends

Posted on March 9, 2026
AI boyfriend

FORBES – More women are turning to AI “boyfriends”, chatbots that simulate empathy, remember details, and provide constant conversation, as frustration with dating apps grows. A 2023 Pew Research Center survey found that 54% of women using dating apps feel overwhelmed by the number of messages they receive, while a 2025 Tinder survey cited by Forbes reported that 94% of women say dating today is more difficult than in the past. A 2025 Journal of Consumer Research study found that interacting with AI companions can reduce loneliness in the moment. A 2026 National Institutes of Health study reported that about half of users on some AI companion platforms describe their relationship with the chatbot as romantic.

The Impact of AI in the Online Dating Industry

Posted on March 9, 2026
AI in online dating

BESTAIFOR.COM – Tinder’s Face Check reduced user exposure to bad actors by 60%+, according to their Oct. ’25 press release. The FTC reported U.S. romance scam losses reached $1.1B in 2023. OkCupid found that 70% of users view AI-generated profiles or messages as a violation of trust. AI enables recommendation engines. Safety tooling came second i.e. nudity filters, scam detection, identity checks. Now AI is helping users craft profiles and messages.

Does this translate to better long-term relationships. Harvard Data Science Review frames the tension: platforms optimize for behavioral signals – likes, messages, return sessions – not for relationship success. Hinge launched Prompt Feedback in Jan ’25, an AI coach that reviews your written answers to profile prompts and gives feedback. Bumble followed in Feb ’26 with Profile Guidance and Photo Feedback. OkCupid now uses OpenAI to generate new matching questions.

Online dating has moved toward ‘scoped assist.’ Hinge’s Convo Starters, launched Dec. ’25, gives AI-generated tips tied to a specific photo or prompt the other person posted. Grindr is testing Wingman, for profile crafting and conversation starters.

$60.5M Tinder Plus and Gold Discrimination Class Action Settlement

Tinder

TOP CLASS ACTIONS – Tinder has agreed to pay $60.5M to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it charged users over age 28 or 29 in California more than younger users for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold subscriptions, in violation of state discrimination and unfair competition laws. The company denies wrongdoing but will compensate eligible California subscribers who paid higher age-based prices.

Mark Brooks on the Dating App Business Model and AI’s Role in Matchmaking

Posted on February 16, 2026
Mark Brooks

REUTERS – Reuters’ Econ World podcast interviews dating-industry consultant Mark Brooks about how dating apps actually make money despite losing users when matches succeed. He explains the evolution from Match.com search-based dating to Tinder’s swipe gamification, the freemium-to-subscription model, and why apps aim for users to stay around three months before pairing off. Major players include Match Group (Tinder, Hinge, Match), Bumble and Grindr. The industry grew during COVID, now faces payment reluctance and privacy concerns from Gen Z, and is shifting toward more meaningful matching and niche communities. Brooks says AI will help verify users, improve profiles and eventually predict compatibility and support relationships, not just create matches.

Posted on February 5, 2026
tinder chemistry

TECH CRUNCH – Tinder is testing an AI feature called Chemistry to reduce swipe fatigue and dating app burnout. Currently piloted in Australia, the feature asks users questions and, if they opt in, analyzes patterns in their phone photos (such as hobbies, travel, or pets) to better understand interests. Instead of endless swiping, Chemistry delivers a small number of more relevant match suggestions.
